Phuoc Khanh Bridge is the last key project of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway. The bridge has a total investment of about 3,500 billion VND, and is being deployed on the entire eastern North-South Expressway to close the entire route. The construction of Phuoc Khanh Bridge has been restarted since early May 2025, after selecting a new contractor. The project is currently named package J3-1, undertaking the construction of the remaining volume of the previous package J3. Previously, the Phuoc Khanh Bridge construction package was signed by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) with the Sumitomo Mitsui-Cienco 4 consortium, starting in January 2016. However, due to problems with capital arrangement and loan agreement extension, the project had to be suspended from 2020 when it had completed more than 80% of the volume. After nearly 5 years of stagnation, the package has a new contractor to continue construction. The bridge has a total length of nearly 3,200m, of which the main span is 300m long, nearly 22m wide and has 6 lanes.
Phuoc Khanh Bridge crosses the Long Tau River, connecting Can Gio Commune, Ho Chi Minh City with Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai. This is an important link of the eastern North-South Expressway, contributing to reducing the load on National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway. In particular, this is a bridge with a clearance of 242m and a height of 55m. This is the highest bridge in Vietnam today, allowing large tonnage ships to pass safely. According to the reporter's records, at the construction site, the contractor consortium mobilized hundreds of engineers, workers, and many equipment and machines to urgently deploy the remaining items of the project.
The main items of package J3-1 include: main girder, bridge deck, cable-stayed system, asphalt concrete layer, lighting system, railing, median strip and bridge drainage system. Up to now, at the main pillar P15 of Can Gio commune and P16 of Dai Phuoc commune, Dong Nai , the joint venture contractor has completed the installation of the first cable-stayed cable bundle, marking an important step in the construction of Phuoc Khanh bridge. On both banks of Can Gio and Nhon Trach, dozens of bridge piers have been completed, currently awaiting the implementation of the next items such as asphalt paving, railing installation and lighting system.
The resumption of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge construction package is considered a key step to connect the entire Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway. Currently, other packages on the route have been basically completed and put into operation.
