Specifically, thunderstorms damaged a total of 76 houses in the province, in which, roofs of 69 houses were blown off in communes and wards in the districts, such as: Tran De, My Tu, Chau Thanh, Cu Lao Dung, Long Phu, Ke Sach, My Xuyen, Nga Nam town, Vinh Chau town and Soc Trang city; Thunderstorms completely collapsed 7 houses in the districts of Tran De, My Tu, Long Phu, My Xuyen and Vinh Chau town.
Comrade Pham Tan Dao - Chief of the Standing Office of the Command and Search and Rescue Committee of Soc Trang province said: "From the beginning of the year to July 18, 7, natural disasters (hurricanes, landslides) occurred in the province, causing damage to a total of 2023 houses. The affected rice area was 140 hectares, jackfruit was damaged 10 hectares, 0,6 school, 1 warehouse and 1 production facility were affected, many trees fell. Erosion of embankment, road, sea dyke 1 sections, total length of 83m. It is estimated that the damage caused by natural disasters in the province is more than 1.657 billion VND.
After natural disasters occur, the commanding committees for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue in districts, towns and cities coordinate with the People's Committees of communes and wards damaged by thunderstorms to visit and encourage households with damaged houses and mobilize on-site forces to support households, relocate, pack up, and help people stabilize their lives; at the same time, organize statistics and assessment of damage levels and propose superior support according to regulations.
According to the weather forecast of the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, from noon on July 19 to noon on July 7, the southern region will have rain in many places, scattered with moderate rain and thunderstorms, with heavy to very heavy rain in some places. The large-scale rain in the Southern region is likely to last until the end of July 21. Thunderstorms are forecasted with the possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong winds. Faced with the above weather situation, people in low-lying areas, riverside and coastal areas should avoid heavy rain causing flooding, affecting production.
