In 2002, Nguyen Van Quang volunteered for military service. After completing his basic training, Quang was sent to study communications and then assigned to Battalion 10, Staff Department, 363rd Division. There, Quang met Van, also a 5x5 map reporting officer. From the first glance, Quang was smitten with the young soldier – petite, with fair skin, a bright smile, and a gentle, kind nature.

Working together and being far from home, Quang and Vân often confided in each other during their free time, sharing stories about life, work, and their future, encouraging each other, overcoming difficulties, and successfully completing their duty at the Division Headquarters. However, Vân still only considered Quang as a younger brother and colleague because she was two years older than him.

Captain Nguyen Van Quang and his wife, Captain Le Thi Van, along with their two children.

In late 2003, due to unit requirements, Quang had to be assigned to a base unit to perform combat duty. Every morning, Quang had to report the unit's situation to the Division Headquarters via internal communication. Van was usually the one who directly received Quang's messages to relay and report to the unit commander. Although it was just polite greetings and brief reports over the phone, the two felt an unusual closeness and intimacy. Over time, they became accustomed to each other; if Quang didn't call to report on the situation, Van would miss him and find a way to call him again to hear his voice. Through the communication line, Quang and Van became even closer, and their feelings for each other developed accordingly…

In mid-2005, after completing his assignment, Quang returned to his unit, and by then, his feelings for Van had matured. They officially confessed their love for each other. During Tet (Lunar New Year) in 2009, Quang requested permission from his unit to take Van back to his hometown in Kim Thanh ( Hai Duong province ) to introduce her to his parents. At his home, Van impressed Quang's parents by personally wrapping beautiful Tet rice cakes and cooking traditional dishes that suited their tastes. In January 2010, Quang and Van officially tied the knot, much to the joy of both families, friends, and colleagues. Now, they have a happy home with two healthy, well-behaved, and academically successful sons.

Due to unit requirements, at the end of 2017, Quang transferred to the Logistics Department (now the Logistics-Technical Department of the 363rd Division), while Van transferred to Company 9, Staff Department of the 363rd Division. Although they were no longer in the same unit, they secretly promised each other to strive together, train, study, and excellently complete their assigned tasks.

Now, whenever they recall their love story, the military couple reminisce about those phone calls as a beautiful memory. They silently thank the military environment and their comrades for nurturing their marital happiness.
