A soldier's gear
In the office of the veteran, businessman Doan Xuan Luyen, Chairman of the Board of Members and Director of Quang Tri No. 1 Trading Company Limited, keeps in the most prominent place a small "treasure" of a soldier: a time-worn backpack, a thin blanket to keep him warm in the flooded trenches during his time defending the Citadel on the Eastern front, a piece of parachute fabric hastily draped over him by a mother from the countryside between battles, a B52 bowl, a water canteen, and a flashlight that accompanied him night after night on duty at the outpost waiting for the enemy...
Every time distinguished guests visit, veteran Doan Xuan Luyen proudly displays his "treasures" from his time in battle. He introduces the "history" of each memento to his guests, recounting his experiences as a reminder to himself not to forget the past. The country is now peaceful, prosperous, and developing thanks to the dedication of his generation of soldiers who devoted their youth to the cause of national liberation and reunification. Many of his comrades from all over the country are still buried in Quang Tri, never to return home.

At eighteen, he joined the guerrilla forces, serving as a liaison for main army units. During the fiery summer of 1972, his hometown of Trieu Long commune was on the Eastern front, tasked with fighting the enemy, defending the outer perimeter, and providing support to Quang Tri Citadel. The 27th Regiment (Trieu Hai Regiment), 320B Division, 1st Corps, participated in holding the Eastern front. From his position as a liaison, the young soldier Doan Xuan Luyen matured through a series of battles within the heroic 27th Regiment.
The journey of creation
Mentioning businessman Doan Xuan Luyen, many people remember him, a soldier of Uncle Ho's army who returned to his homeland after the peace treaty. Starting from nothing, with unwavering willpower, steely determination, and a burning desire to get rich, he built a substantial empire: Quang Tri No. 1 Trading Company Limited, with three major facilities: a steel structure manufacturing plant, a fibrocement roofing sheet manufacturing plant, and a Dai Long corrugated iron and purlin manufacturing plant, along with a chain of retail stores throughout the province.
Interacting with him, I sensed his rather unusual business philosophy—"For everyone, for ourselves." When I asked him about it, he explained simply: "For everyone" means finding every way, at all costs, to create as many stable jobs as possible, helping workers feel secure and dedicated to their work, striving for excellence in labor and production. When the workforce is strong, they wholeheartedly commit to the company, working for it and for the company.
"Whatever profits we make, besides ensuring a decent life for our employees, I focus on reinvesting in production and business. The company's assets don't belong solely to me; they belong entirely to everyone," Mr. Doan Xuan Luyen shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch and President of the Trade Union of Quang Tri No. 1 Trading Company Limited, shared: “I have worked at the company for over 20 years. Everyone here considers the company their second home. The owner is like an older brother, a father, or an uncle. The director's soldierly spirit of 'daring to think, daring to act, and daring to take responsibility' inspires us, so everyone is dedicated and ready to contribute their strength and intellect to the company. A solid home, with a harmonious, compassionate, and humane owner, will ensure that the children and grandchildren are united and well-behaved.”
In 2025, Quang Tri No. 1 Trading Company Limited is expected to achieve total revenue of 312 billion VND, contribute nearly 2 billion VND to the state budget, and ensure stable living conditions for 200 employees with an average salary of 8 million VND per month. In addition, the company will ensure full benefits and policies for its employees, including: social insurance contributions exceeding 2 billion VND, meal allowances exceeding 582 million VND, and sick leave and maternity benefits exceeding 150 million VND.
Nearly 17 billion VND in salaries and other benefits are fully implemented each year, a testament to Director Doan Xuan Luyen's commitment to his employees. It is no coincidence that Quang Tri No. 1 Trading Company Limited has been honored as a "Typical Enterprise for Employees".
Implementing its business expansion strategy, in 2025, the company will continue to invest 8.835 billion VND in both production and commercial business sectors; including 4 billion VND for building two retail showrooms, 2 billion VND for purchasing machinery and equipment, and 2.835 billion VND for investing in transportation vehicles...
And gratitude
Mr. Doan Xuan Luyen took us back to his hometown in Trieu Long, also the former battlefield where he fought as part of the 27th Regiment on the Eastern Front during the fiery summer of 1972. In Phuong Ngan village, there is now a historical relic complex, a memorial and temple dedicated to 2,500 martyrs of the 27th Regiment, which, in the mind of veteran Doan Xuan Luyen, is always considered a "cemetery without tombstones," a "common home" for his comrades.
Lighting an incense stick to commemorate his fallen comrades, he softly recited verses by poet Nguyen Viet A, also a soldier of the 27th Regiment: “Mother, for the sake of the country and the land / I lost my son, but the Fatherland remains today / The sacred land of Quang Tri is reunited / I beg to stay here and not return...”
“With the steely resolve yet profound humanity of a soldier of Uncle Ho, businessman Doan Xuan Luyen has transformed determination into action. Beyond his success in production and business, businessman Doan Xuan Luyen always prioritizes activities honoring his comrades and fallen heroes... continuing the mission of spreading humanitarian values and beautifying the heroic land and people of Quang Tri,” shared Hoang Xuan Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial Veterans Association.
"Living is about sharing" has become the philosophy of life and business for entrepreneur Doan Xuan Luyen. In his heart, today's success has never belonged solely to him. Every step of his business's growth is imbued with gratitude to his comrades who fell on the battlefield, to wounded soldiers bearing the scars of war, and to children suffering from the effects of Agent Orange inherited from their parents...
The camaraderie among his comrades became a solid spiritual foundation, a warm flame in his soul, helping him to continuously spread compassion to the community. The total amount of charitable and social welfare donations that veteran Doan Xuan Luyen has directly mobilized, contributed, and organized to date has reached 3.3 billion VND.
