Full of energy
At 72 years old, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nen from Tan Huong commune (Ninh Giang district) still regularly participates in the women's amateur volleyball team in Hamlet 3. For more than three years, every afternoon she has been present at the hamlet's cultural center to practice and compete with other women. With her agile movements and decisive actions, Mrs. Nen surprises many when they learn that she has reached the age of "seventy years old."
Sharing her joy of volleyball, Mrs. Nen smiled brightly: "Training with my teammates not only keeps me healthy but also makes me feel relaxed and happy. Every afternoon when I go to the court, I feel lighter. It feels like I've become several years younger."
Not only does she participate regularly, but she also actively encourages and supports new members to join. The team members call her the "inspiring flame" of the entire team.

While his peers choose a slow, relaxed lifestyle like walking or practicing Tai Chi, Mr. Hoang Cao Son (67 years old) in Sao Do ward (Chi Linh city) finds his passion on long journeys with his familiar bicycle.
Every morning, the sight of Mr. Son in his sportswear, wearing a helmet, cycling dozens of kilometers is a familiar one to the locals. He says, "My body may age, but my spirit must remain young. I cycle not only to improve my health but also to keep my spirits high every day."
Recently, he and members of the Red Star Sports Cycling Club completed a cycling trip of hundreds of kilometers from Hai Duong to Ha Giang. This was not an easy journey, even for young people. After many days of climbing hills and crossing mountain passes, he not only tested his physical endurance but also affirmed his willpower and spirit in overcoming age. The trip left the group with many memories and, more importantly, motivation to continue living positively, exercising regularly, and constantly challenging themselves regardless of age.

“We traveled at a leisurely pace, taking one leg each day, enjoying the scenery along the way, chatting, and encouraging each other. The feeling of finally arriving in Ha Giang was indescribable, not because of the long journey, but because we had overcome ourselves,” Mr. Son shared.
People like Mrs. Nen and Mr. Son represent a generation of elderly people who are shifting from a passive to an active lifestyle. Their commonality lies not in physical stamina, but in a positive mindset. They refuse to let age diminish their willpower, they don't surrender to the slowing down of their bodies, but instead choose to maintain physical activity, participate in the community, and cultivate an optimistic spirit.
Old age is no longer a limit to enjoyment or community activities. On the contrary, living positively, maintaining passions, and staying socially connected are becoming trends among the elderly community. Role models like Mrs. Nen and Mr. Son not only contribute to changing perceptions about "the elderly," but also build an image of active, healthy, and energetic senior citizens.
Living happily leads to good health.

Despite overcoming serious injuries in his later years, Mr. Nguyen Trong Pho, residing in Thuy Lam village, Doan Tung commune (Thanh Mien district), remains healthy and full of optimism. At 85 years old, he is a role model of optimism and unwavering determination. He is a prime example of the spirit of "living happily leads to good health."
Every morning, the villagers are accustomed to seeing an elderly man exercising with agile movements. Few know that Mr. Pho had suffered a serious accident when he fell and broke a vertebra in his 80s. He once thought he would never be able to walk normally again. It was a difficult period. But with an optimistic spirit even in his hospital bed, he refused to let his body give up. After a long period of persistent treatment and rehabilitation, through a balanced lifestyle and strong will, he gradually recovered. Now, he not only walks nimbly but has also become a source of positive energy for many people in the village.

Besides physical exercise, she also nurtures a youthful spirit through poetry. Her poems are all imbued with a fresh and optimistic spirit. Notably, Ms. Pho is proficient in using smartphones. For her, the phone is a tool for sharing her creations on social media. Her personal Facebook account has over 1,000 friends, mostly young people who love her poetry and admire her positive outlook on life. "Old age is a concept of time. But when you choose to live young, your spirit will always be optimistic and full of vitality," Ms. Pho said.
According to Mr. Pham Quang San, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association of Elderly People, maintaining appropriate physical activity significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and dementia among the elderly. Furthermore, participating in community activities such as sports and arts helps reduce loneliness and improve mental health. This is a crucial factor for this age group.
He emphasized that the key is to maintain a proactive spirit and a positive lifestyle. "Active old age is not uncommon if older people are properly encouraged and have a suitable living environment," said Mr. Pham Quang San.
Currently, many localities have established senior citizen clubs, sports groups, volunteer groups, etc., creating healthy living spaces that help the elderly live happily and healthily. "Living young in old age" is no longer rare, but is becoming a positive and correct choice that needs to be widely promoted in the community.
