The Trẹm River (or Trèm Trẹm River) is a river approximately 42 km long, originating from the confluence of the Tân Bằng and Cán Gáo canals and flowing to the confluence of the Ông Đốc River, passing through Thới Bình commune. The Trẹm River meanders like a silk ribbon through the U Minh forest. The river has an average depth of 3-4 meters, a width of 80 to 100 meters, and its water color changes with the seasons. Especially during the rainy season, the river water turns a dark brown color due to the sediment from the mangrove forests flowing into the canals and ditches.
In the Trẹm River basin lies the unique ecotourism area of the U Minh Melaleuca forest. The forest here boasts over 300 species of plants and animals, offering a rich diversity.

Here, there is a botanical garden with 130 plant species belonging to 62 families, being protected and nurtured over an area of 100 hectares. The garden resembles a pristine forest untouched by human activity and is home to many species of birds, animals, and freshwater fish.
The two U Minh regions (Upper and Lower), stretching along the poetic Treem River, were once immortalized in poetry. The Treem River has been a source of inspiration for countless artists and writers. The novel "Beside the Treem River," with its poignant, tragic, and fraught love story between a young man named Trieu Vi and a village girl named My Lan, by writer Duong Ha, was a resounding success. Anyone who has read "Beside the Treem River" will surely have the image of a peaceful, poetic Treem River etched in their memory and will long to visit it someday.
