Digital "boost" for tourism in Gia Lai.

The event of Gia Lai province hosting the National Tourism Year 2026 is an opportunity to promote the image of a region rich in cultural and historical traditions, and a test of the "digital resilience" of the tourism industry in the digital age.

Therefore, promoting digital transformation in tourism development has been identified by the province as one of its key tasks, contributing to making tourism a leading economic sector of the locality.

To effectively implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in national science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, along with Plan No. 22-KH/TU of the Standing Committee of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has identified this as a key task requiring decisive action from the entire political system to every official and Party member. Many timely policy documents and plans have been issued, clearly demonstrating political determination and proactive implementation. Notably, 100% of officials and Party members in the sector have been thoroughly briefed on the contents of Resolution No. 57 as well as the province's action plans…

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thi Kim Chung, in recent times, the Department has implemented many practical tasks to apply technology to tourism development, such as: coordinating withFPT Group to develop digital transformation projects for the period 2025-2030; developing the Quang Trung Museum Digital Museum project with virtual reality (VR/AR) experience tours; digitizing tours, routes, and destinations using QR codes at 20 historical sites and tourist attractions; creating 43 virtual explanatory videos using AI technology…

In particular, videos showcasing traditional Binh Dinh martial arts, Bài Chòi singing, martial arts forms, weapons, sparring, etc., filmed and edited using 2D/3D/360-degree technology and integrated into a digital map system (https://voduongbinhdinh.vr360.com.vn), have initially made a positive impression on domestic and international tourists. Furthermore, the tourism data repository is becoming increasingly comprehensive, with 685 tour guide profiles, over 1,200 digitized accommodation establishments, 25 food and beverage establishments, and 90 travel agencies updated to serve the needs of more comprehensive and professional tourism research, operation, and promotion. The new Gia Lai Provincial Tourism Portal platform https://dulichgialai.gialai.gov.vn is being gradually merged and upgraded from the old portals of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces. It will be a "digital tourism gateway" that allows tourists to access comprehensive information about destinations, itineraries, and events with just one click.

Initiatives such as deploying information kiosks in tourist information counters at Phu Cat Airport's arrival terminal or integrating QR codes into promotional materials at international tourism fairs (VITM Hanoi, ITE Ho Chi Minh City, etc.) have helped Gia Lai province "catch up" with the multi-platform promotion trend being adopted by many localities.

As one of the first units to proactively participate in the National Tourism Year 2026, Quy Nhon ward has implemented many initiatives related to digital transformation. Mr. Phan Tuan Hoang, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quy Nhon Ward People's Committee, shared: “The ward has identified promoting tourism image through digital platforms as a key task. Local tourism information has been posted on the ward's website, the Zalo OA e-government channel, and popular social networks to enhance the image of Quy Nhon as a clean, green, and friendly tourist destination.”

In 2026, the ward plans to pilot a socialized model of applying technology to the tourist passport model, to serve visits to the 09 Dao Duy Tu Prison historical site - a bold step in applying digital transformation to serve domestic tourism experiences.

Mr. Nguyen Pham Kien Trung, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial Tourism Association, affirmed: "After the provincial merger, Gia Lai has greater potential for tourism development, but it also poses challenges in brand identification. Therefore, building a professional and consistent digital tourism communication ecosystem is an urgent requirement."

Mr. Trung emphasized that choosing the "Quy Nhon-Pleiku" landmarks as the representative brand of Gia Lai tourism is a long-term strategy, linked to the unique climate, culture, history, and outstanding tourism products of each region. "We propose developing a slogan and brand identity associated with these two landmarks soon to facilitate promotion, tour organization, and domestic and international communication on technology platforms, especially during the National Tourism Year 2026," Mr. Trung shared.

Despite achieving significant accomplishments, the application of digital technology in the province's cultural, sports, and tourism sectors faces numerous challenges. Investment in digital transformation remains limited. Technological equipment is largely outdated and lacks standardization, reducing efficiency and increasing the risk of information security breaches. Standardizing information between localities and businesses after mergers remains problematic. There is a shortage of highly skilled IT professionals, especially those with the vision and skills to implement modern technological solutions in the "digital economy of tourism."

Faced with difficulties and challenges, Gia Lai province has developed a clear strategy, a timely transformation mindset, and strong political determination, demonstrating proactiveness from the initial stages of understanding to implementation. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chung stated that to ensure the progress of the digital transformation task in 2026, the Gia Lai tourism sector will continue to coordinate with the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, solution consulting units such as FPT, and propose to the Provincial People's Committee to allocate investment capital for equipment, infrastructure, data synchronization, and training of specialized human resources in digital tourism. Simultaneously, the province will promote the dissemination of digital technology through the "digital literacy" movement, contributing to raising "digital literacy" in the community, businesses, and government agencies. The period from 2025-2026 is a pivotal stage for Gia Lai province to break through and create the image of a digitized, modern tourist destination rich in ethnic cultural identity…

Currently, Gia Lai province is not only preparing infrastructure and boosting investment in services and experiential products, but is also strongly developing through technology, successfully building a complete, efficient, and convenient digital tourism platform for tourists. This is an inevitable direction, a "technological springboard" for Gia Lai tourism to reach further, contributing to the goal of making tourism a truly leading economic sector of the province.
