What makes tourism in the Mekong Delta so profitable during Tet?

On the morning of February 22nd, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, stated that during the Tet holiday, the province is estimated to welcome over 1.7 million visitors (an increase of over 37% compared to the same period last year), including nearly 100,000 international tourists.

Of these, Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone attracted over 366,000 visitors, including more than 92,000 international tourists (an increase of over 24% compared to the same period); the average room occupancy rate is estimated at around 80%.

Total tourism revenue for the entire province is estimated at 2,622 billion VND.

Can Tho is also one of the localities with the highest number of tourists and tourism revenue during Tet (Lunar New Year) in the region. According to the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as of February 22nd, the number of tourists during Tet was estimated at 614,800, an increase of 23.02% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, as of the 4th day of Tet (Lunar New Year), the province is estimated to have welcomed 422,000 visitors. Notably, Sa Dec flower village (Sa Dec ward) experienced a surge in tourists, increasing by more than 50% compared to last year, welcoming over 133,000 visitors.

Explaining the reason for the "boom" in international tourists to Phu Quoc, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai added that the locality had made thorough preparations with many activities, decorative landscaping and tourism products reflecting the Vietnamese Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere on the island, rural market scenes, lion and dragon dance performances, etc.

At popular tourist destinations such as the Kissing Bridge, Sunset Town, Hon Thom cable car (An Thoi), Grand World Phu Quoc, Phu Quoc Safari, etc., many million-dollar shows of international standards are held day and night, attracting international tourists to come and enjoy themselves.

"Phu Quoc is currently in its most beautiful season of the year. Tourism businesses are also constantly improving the quality of their services, avoiding aggressive sales tactics and price gouging, resulting in a surge in tourists during Tet," Mr. Thai said.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Nhan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Dec Ward, said that the second Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival still has a strong appeal to tourists. In addition, the transportation system has received more investment and development, making travel easier, eliminating the problem of aggressive touting, and focusing on price management, thus creating a positive impression and attracting more visitors.
