According to legend, in ancient times, people did not know how to plow and cultivate rice, but lived only on the products of nature. The land along the riverbanks was enriched with fertile silt whenever the water rose. King Hung, seeing that this land was good, summoned his people to build embankments to retain water. Seeing that wild rice grew abundantly, he taught the people how to preserve the seeds, sow seedlings, and transplant them into the waterlogged fields when they turned green. Since then, every year at the beginning of the planting season, the people of Minh Nong hold the Tich Dien Ceremony (going down to the fields) to express their gratitude for the great contributions of King Hung. The land along the riverbanks was enriched with fertile silt whenever the water rose. King Hung, seeing that this land was good, summoned his people to build embankments to retain water. Seeing that wild rice grew abundantly, he devised a method for the people to preserve the seeds, sow seedlings, and transplant them into the flooded rice paddies when they turned green. Since then, every year at the beginning of the planting season, the people of Minh Nong hold the Tich Dien Ceremony (going down to the fields) to commemorate this event.
