A mind without clarity cannot become a teacher.

In recent days, the press and public opinion have been abuzz about the case of a primary school principal in Quang Tri province being temporarily detained by the provincial police's security investigation agency for investigation into alleged bribery.

The situation escalated further when authorities received audio recordings provided by the teachers. The content of these recordings revealed that being allowed to teach at the school was not entirely based on professional competence or job position, but showed signs of being influenced by "underground" agreements outside of regulations...

Recently, "deviations" from ethical standards among teachers are no longer rare occurrences, tarnishing the image of educators. These violations not only ruin students' futures but also erode public trust, forcing the education sector to constantly review and remove unqualified individuals from the teaching environment.

Although the Ministry of Education and Training has issued numerous circulars establishing comprehensive and consistent ethical standards for teachers from preschool to university, such as: maintaining the quality, reputation, and honor of the teaching profession; having a spirit of solidarity, respect, and cooperation with colleagues; having compassion and treating students fairly and appropriately; protecting the legitimate rights and interests of students, colleagues, and the community; practicing thrift, combating corruption and waste; being dedicated and committed to the profession; and adhering to the code of conduct for teachers… A positive change is that the current ethical standards clearly reflect the spirit of putting the learner at the center.

Previously, when discussing teacher ethics, many people emphasized the exemplary or personal standards of the teacher. Now, modern education demands more than that. Standards are no longer heavily focused on form but rather on the practical requirements of the teaching profession in the new era. Professional ethics today is also reflected in respecting learners, listening to them, supporting them, and creating a positive, safe, and humane learning environment for their holistic development.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training, along with local Departments of Education and Training, are intensifying their efforts to review and require educational institutions to sign commitments to combat school violence and rectify ethical violations.

It can be affirmed that the ethical system for teachers required by the Ministry of Education and Training is correct and necessary, but the true value of these standards depends on the degree of concretization and the conditions of implementation in practice. Because practice shows that regulations exist, commitments exist, but if ethical standards remain only on paper, it is difficult to create substantive change. Professional ethics cannot be controlled solely by administrative regulations; they need to be nurtured by the professional awareness and social responsibility of each teacher.

In the current context, in order to achieve the goal of improving quality and fundamentally and comprehensively reforming education and training, teachers must constantly learn and update their knowledge, skills, and methods. Teachers not only impart knowledge to students, but more importantly, they must work with families and society to teach students how to become useful members of society and the community. To achieve this, teachers must continuously cultivate their moral character, personality, lifestyle, demeanor, and professional standards based on regulations on teacher standards, as well as having a correct understanding of the changing times, in order to set a good example for their students. When that example is truly pure, negative aspects will be limited and quickly eliminated.

The saying "Without a pure heart, it is difficult to be a teacher" emphasizes that ethics and dedication to the profession are just as important as professional knowledge. This is also the core philosophy in education and knowledge transmission.
