Forming the foundation
The implementation of the project will contribute to building a modern, sustainable and responsible Vietnamese agriculture. Therefore, as soon as the policy to implement the project was announced, the Party Committee, government and people of Tan Chau Town have gradually implemented it in a methodical and synchronous manner. In 2024, the town will start the process of participating in the project with a 500ha pilot project, focusing on Tan Phu A1 Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Thanh Commune) and Tan Hau A2 Cooperative (Tan An Commune).
“The important highlight in the implementation process is the synchronous application of modern technical advances in rice production, using “3 in 1” drones to support sowing, spraying pesticides and fertilizing. Farmers participating in the project are supported with 50% of seed costs, 30% of pesticides, 50% of fertilizers, and 50% of the drone equipment value,” said Mr. Trinh Van Dut (Director of Tan Phu A1 Cooperative).
All varieties sown in the project are certified varieties.
In parallel with the implementation of the actual model, the town also focuses on training, raising awareness and production capacity of farmers. In 2024, the town's agricultural sector organized 17 training courses. Of which, 6 courses were specifically for farmers directly participating in the model at Tan Phu A1 and Tan Hau A2 Cooperatives. The support of all levels, sectors, and specialized units, along with the application of modern techniques and improving farmers' knowledge, has created a solid foundation for Tan Chau Town to expand its scale and more effectively implement the project in 2025 and the following years.
Increase area by 6 times
In 2025, Tan Chau Town aims to expand the area participating in the project to 2,953 hectares, nearly 6 times higher than the first year. This area is distributed in 10 communes and wards, including localities with large areas of participation, such as: Long Son (475 hectares), Tan An (388 hectares), Tan Thanh (381 hectares), Le Chanh (375 hectares), Vinh Hoa (346 hectares)... "These will be bright spots to help spread new ways of doing things, encouraging farmers to gradually change their production thinking towards linkage, responsibility and environmental friendliness..." - Mr. Le Trong Oanh (Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tan Chau Town) commented.
During the implementation of the project, the town also encountered many difficulties, such as: Management capacity at cooperatives in the area is still limited; some cooperatives have not yet promoted their role as focal points to represent farmers in organizing production and signing consumption linkages. Faced with this reality, the town's Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed a number of key solutions. In particular, it emphasized that the province needs to have specific support levels for investment in infrastructure in production areas, and at the same time issue clear support policies for farmers participating in the project so that communes and wards can easily mobilize and propagate. Continue to invite reputable enterprises to have long-term ties with cooperatives and cooperative groups, thereby forming a tight production and consumption linkage chain.
Tan Chau Town’s determination to implement the project is not only a story of a locality accompanying the major policies of the Party and the State, but also a process of reshaping the way of doing modern, responsible and environmentally friendly agriculture. “The town government has been creating an important premise for a new rice production model. There, farmers are supported in technology, businesses accompany in consumption; the products are guaranteed to have both economic value and environmental standards. This demonstrates the great determination of the entire Party Committee in implementing the major policies set forth by the Party and the State…” - Mr. Khuu Ba Phuc (farmer of Phu Vinh commune) expressed.
From the initial foundation of 500 hectares to the target of nearly 3,000 hectares (by 2025) and the expectation of further expansion in the following years, Tan Chau Town is affirming its active role in implementing the green agricultural development strategy of the Mekong Delta region, where rice is not only an agricultural product, but also a symbol of the process of innovation in thinking and action, contributing to the successful implementation of the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels in the coming time.
