His remarks come amid repeated statements by US President Donald Trump expressing his ambition to turn Greenland into US territory, even not ruling out the possibility of using force.
In a Facebook post on March 30, Prime Minister Nielsen emphasized, "We don't belong to anyone else," asserting that only the people of Greenland have the right to decide the island's future. This move was seen as a direct response to Trump's statement that he "100% will get Greenland."
Not only Greenland, but the Danish government also expressed displeasure at the harsh statements from the US. In particular, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen criticized the "tone" of US Vice President JD Vance when he stated that Denmark had "not invested enough" in Greenland's security.
Mr. Rasmussen emphasized that while Denmark is willing to cooperate with the US in the field of defense, Washington's current approach is unacceptable.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is also planning a visit to Greenland from April 2 to 4 to strengthen relations between Denmark and Greenland, amid increasing pressure from the United States.

Not content with diplomatic statements, Trump even hinted at the possibility of using force to gain control of Greenland. When asked about this, the US President replied: "I don't rule anything out."
Although he asserted that "there is a high probability that we can accomplish this without force," Trump's leaving open the possibility of military intervention has caused concern among many of America's allies.
Under pressure from Washington, four of the five largest political parties in Greenland quickly formed a political coalition led by Prime Minister Nielsen. Despite disagreements over the roadmap to independence from Denmark, these parties were united in their opposition to the US annexation plans.
Recent polls show that a majority of Greenlanders are not keen on becoming a US territory, despite promises from Trump. To protect its self-determination, the Greenland government is seeking to strengthen ties with Denmark and the European Union.
