According to the South China Morning Post on January 5th, veteran actor, filmmaker, and television executive Eric Tsang has officially confirmed his resignation as CEO of TVB, ending months of speculation surrounding his future at Hong Kong's largest television station.
The information was announced by Eric Tsang at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2025, held on the evening of January 3rd at the Grand Lisboa Palace resort in Macau and broadcast live.
Relinquishing the executive position and transitioning to a strategic advisory role.
The speech was delivered as he stepped onto the stage to receive the prestigious "Thousand Stars Glory Legendary Honour Award," honoring his outstanding and enduring contributions to TVB.
The award was announced by TVB's Executive Chairman, Hui Tao, while the trophy was presented by veteran singer Alan Tam, a longtime friend of Eric Tsang.
Eric Tsang gave an acceptance speech and emotionally shared his decision to leave his position as Director of TVB after many years of dedication.

In his acceptance speech, Eric Tsang shared: "Over the past five years, thanks to everyone's support, our programs have been loved by the audience. That is what makes me happiest. But today, I feel that my source of ideas is dwindling, and it's time to hand over my position so that the younger generation can continue to elevate TVB and shoulder this responsibility."
Subsequently, TVB issued an official announcement stating that Eric Tsang would be appointed as the coordinator of the new advisory board, effective January 21st.
In this role, he will advise the board of directors on new content direction and overall development strategy, including the application of technology and expansion of inter-industry collaboration, in order to strengthen TVB's content ecosystem.
Chairman Hsu Tao praised Eric Tsang's role, stating that he "initiated a crucial content reform plan and, along with many internal departments, opened up new program directions."
Mr. Hsu Tao expressed his hope that Eric Tsang will continue to contribute his creative vision and strategic experience, helping TVB to promote innovation and develop partnerships in the future.
Eric Tsang said he has run out of ideas and is ready to hand over the responsibility to the talented younger generation.

Eric Tsang has a long-standing relationship with TVB, having held various roles from artist, presenter, actor to senior executive. His artist contract with TVB ended in 2017 after 25 years of collaboration. In January 2021, he was invited back as deputy executive director, in charge of entertainment and music programs.
In September of the same year, Eric Tsang was promoted to CEO, primarily responsible for content operations, including collaborative television projects, entertainment programs, music, content acquisition, and strategic planning. From November 2025 onwards, rumors circulated about his departure from this position, but Eric Tsang repeatedly denied them before officially confirming it at the recent event.
