According to HK01, Xu Shao-hung was a guest on a health program on RTHK. The interview was recorded before his death but was not aired until November 11. This was also the last interview of the "supporting role boss" before his passing on October 28.
During the conversation, the veteran actor met a famous medical professor from the University of Hong Kong and shared about his illness. The Apostle Walker star said he discovered he had kidney cancer last year. The former TVB artist recalled: "One day, I discovered that my urine was very dark in color, at first I thought I had internal heat. But after 2 weeks, this condition still did not improve. At that time, I was really confused, not knowing what was happening to me."

Hua Thieu Hung shared with an optimistic and humorous attitude: "My only flaw is 'listening to women'. My wife reminded me to go for a check-up carefully, so I did. After the check-up, the doctor discovered blood in my urine, which made me very scared. After a closer check-up, one of my kidneys had a shadow, and through further testing, it turned out to be a tumor."
The actor of the movie The Story of Vuong said that at that time he felt lucky because the cancer cells had not metastasized. He followed the doctor's instructions and underwent surgery to remove his kidney. The veteran artist said that after the surgery, he was able to get out of bed and walk right away. "The doctor asked me why I was so good, I replied: It must be because the doctor's skills are so good," the former TVB actor laughed. He also said that he had never worried about his illness, only seeing the surgery as an experience similar to filming.

However, after a period of quietly fighting cancer, Xu Shao-hung's health gradually deteriorated. On October 27, the Hong Kong entertainment industry was abuzz with the news that the TVB "supporting role boss" was hospitalized in critical condition. This was considered a shock to the male artist's longtime fans because not long before, he still appeared happy and healthy in daily videos with his daughter as well as gathering with friends on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. By the early morning of December 28, Xu Shao-hung passed away, the cause of which was multiple organ failure due to cancer.
On October 31, Xu Shao-hung's family posted an obituary, announcing that his funeral would be held in Hong Kong on November 17. The late artist's wife and children said they would follow his wishes: hold a simple funeral, focusing on charity. All condolence money will be donated to a fund to support children with cancer.
Xu Shao-Hung's daughter said that all social media accounts related to the late artist will be kept to continue sharing the actor's happy moments, spreading the optimistic spirit that he always brought.
