Gold price update this afternoon, March 25, 2025, worldwide.
On the afternoon of March 25th, the price of gold reached $3,012.99 per ounce, a slight decrease of $11.98 per ounce compared to the previous trading session. The main reasons for this were profit-taking by short-term investors and the strong recovery of the US stock market. However, this decrease was not enough to signal a weakening of the long-term upward trend.
US gold futures edged higher at $3,019.70 per ounce. According to IG expert Yeap Jun Rong, uncertainty surrounding the scope and scale of potential new US tariffs is keeping investors cautious, with gold continuing to be seen as a safe-haven asset. President Trump recently announced tariffs on imported automobiles, but also left open the possibility of not implementing all of the previously proposed tariffs.
Trump's tax policies are predicted to increase trade tensions, stifle US economic growth, and push inflation higher. These factors create favorable conditions for gold prices to continue rising amid uncertainty and low interest rates. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic believes the process of curbing inflation will be slower than expected, predicting the Fed will only cut interest rates by another 0.25 percentage points between now and the end of 2025.
Another positive sign is that capital inflows into gold investment funds remain strong. According to the World Gold Council, ETFs attracted nearly 31 tonnes of gold last week, worth approximately $3 billion. This marks the eighth consecutive week of net gold purchases, with funds in North America accounting for the majority. The two largest funds, SPDR and GLDM, added $3.75 billion and $1.25 billion respectively, reflecting investors' strong confidence in the long-term prospects of the precious metal.
Not only gold, but other precious metals also recorded slight increases. Silver rose 0.3% to $33.10 per ounce, platinum increased 0.2% to $974.65 per ounce, and palladium also edged up 0.2% to $953.53 per ounce.
