Grade 1 students (international class), Van Lang Primary - Secondary - High School (Ha Long City) are excited to be taught by foreign teachers.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Van Lang Primary, Secondary and High School (Ha Long City) received 260 student applications for grade 1. However, the school only accepted 208 students. The competition is so high because for many years, the school'seducational quality has been affirmed, especially in teaching and learning English. Many parents want their children to study at the school, especially in international classes.

Ms. Hoang Thi Mai Linh, English teacher, Van Lang Primary School, said: In the primary school, the school currently has 14 international classes out of a total of 26 classes. In the international classes, students study the Cambridge curriculum, the program is more difficult, for example, in the first grade, which is not an international class, students only learn half of the alphabet, while in the international class, they have learned the entire alphabet. Another difference is that out of 7 English periods a week, 4-5 periods are taught by foreign teachers.

Focusing on teaching and learning foreign languages ​​has helped the school achieve positive results, affirming its brand. Notably, in the 2024-2025 Internet English Olympic Competition (IOE), provincial round, the school had 9 students honored; in the national round, there was 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals.

It is noted that in both public and non-public sectors, foreign language teaching and learning has received much more attention than before with diverse approaches.

For example, at Huu Nghi Primary School (Ha Long City), the first foreign language is currently taught, which is French and English. To improve the quality of foreign language teaching and learning, the school has actively applied digital transformation, deployed software, applications for learning vocabulary, grammar, listening and speaking practice, interactively and attractively; built a diverse online learning material repository (electronic lectures, videos , audios...).

The school also cooperates with E-connect Quang Ninh Foreign Language Center to organize English familiarization and listening and speaking classes with foreigners participating in teaching for students with a duration of 2 periods/week.

Teachers at Huu Nghi Primary School (Ha Long City) apply IT when teaching French to 4th grade students.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Ly, Vice Principal of Huu Nghi Primary School, said: The school strongly encourages and proactively guides students to register for English competitions such as the Internet English Olympiad (IOE), "For Quang Ninh to be good at English". At the same time, it encourages and guides students to study French to take the DELF Prim certificate. This is a French certificate issued by the French Ministry of Education and Training, according to the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages.

According to the Department of Education and Training, in recent years, the province has always paid attention to and invested many resources to improve the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages. Awareness of the role of foreign languages ​​in society has changed, the foreign language learning movement has tended to develop, the demand for learning foreign languages ​​is increasing, especially in urban areas and towns.

The quality of foreign language teaching and learning has changed positively, clearly shown through the results of the national excellent student exam and high school graduation exam. The percentage of students winning the national excellent student award in foreign languages ​​has changed a lot, specifically, in 2022 it was 45%, in 2023 it was 63.6%, in 2024 it was 86.2%. Quang Ninh's ranking compared to the whole country in terms of average foreign language score has increased significantly: in 2020 it was 40/63 provinces, by 2024 it was 12/63 provinces.

The teaching staff basically meets the standards in terms of qualifications and capacity, the rate of teachers meeting the standards according to the teaching level is relatively high (98% of teachers meet the standards according to the 6-level capacity framework for teachers). In particular, facilities are invested, schools all ensure the minimum conditions for teaching and learning foreign languages.

Many schools are equipped with foreign language classrooms, smart classrooms, and information technology applications, improving the quality of foreign language teaching and learning. The foreign language environment is focused on, students have the opportunity to participate in useful and interesting playgrounds, express themselves, and practice communication skills.

It is known that the Department of Education and Training has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee will continue to pay attention and create the best conditions for the Department to gradually implement the plan to introduce English as a second language when the Government's Project is available. At the same time, it will direct relevant departments, branches and sectors to actively coordinate in implementing the tasks of the Foreign Language Project.
