Mr. Hoang Ninh stated that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been implementing a series of policies to promote the application of AI in industry and commerce. Specifically, on November 13, 2024, the Minister of Industry and Trade signed Decision No. 116 promulgating the action plan to implement Government Resolution 03 on innovation, science and technology, and digital transformation. At the same time, the ministry is also submitting to the Government a program to support businesses in applying Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI.
Mr. Hoang Ninh shared this at the seminar on March 31st.
In terms of practical implementation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has collaborated with leading technology corporations such as Siemens, Samsung, and Toyota to organize conferences and training courses to help businesses in the industry access AI. The Ministry also encourages businesses to apply AI to production and strengthens international cooperation to leverage the experience of foreign businesses and governments .
According to Mr. Hoang Ninh, the application of AI has yielded many positive results in several manufacturing sectors in Vietnam. For example, in the textile and garment industry, Vinatex uses AI to optimize production processes, manage supply chains, and forecast market demand, helping to reduce production time by 30% and significantly reduce waste.
In the footwear industry, AI is being applied to design patterns, analyze market trends, and automate production lines. In the manufacturing industry, the Vietnam Engine and Industrial Machinery Corporation (Ministry of Industry and Trade) has applied AI to improve equipment monitoring and maintenance, while companies such as Rang Dong and Hoa Phat are also actively applying AI to their production and business operations.
However, Mr. Hoang Ninh emphasized that for AI to truly create a breakthrough in production, businesses need to focus on five decisive factors: institutions, strategies, and policies; data infrastructure, equipment, and security; the will and determination of business leaders; sufficient financial resources to invest in AI; and a workforce capable of mastering the technology.
He also pointed out that, to promote the application of AI, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will implement more synchronized solutions in the coming time. First, it will develop a program to support businesses in digital transformation and the application of AI in the textile, footwear, processing, and manufacturing sectors.
At the same time, the ministry is coordinating with other ministries, sectors, and localities to propose preferential policies on capital and credit to support science and technology enterprises; and promoting the development of big data to serve the development of AI in production and business.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also recommended that localities should proactively develop high-tech zones and smart industrial parks to create a favorable environment for businesses to apply technology. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen connections between businesses and research organizations and universities to promote innovation.
Delegates participated in a panel discussion on the application of AI in manufacturing in Vietnam.
* Mr. Nguyen Doan Ket, Deputy General Director of Rang Dong Light Bulb and Thermos Flask Joint Stock Company: The cost of using current technology platforms is too high, especially from foreign suppliers. We hope the State will support the development of domestic AI platforms at reasonable costs; at the same time, common protocol standards should be established soon so that AI devices of domestic enterprises can operate synchronously, avoiding dependence on individual ecosystems.
* Mr. Ho Minh Thang, Director of the AI Consulting and Implementation Center - FPT Smart Cloud: FPT Smart Cloud is collaborating with NVIDIA – a leading AI company – to build Blueprint standards, aiming to develop specialized AI solutions for various sectors such as banking, retail, and manufacturing. This approach not only optimizes investment costs but also helps businesses access and apply AI effectively, opening up opportunities for comprehensive digital transformation.
* Mr. Tran Manh Ha, Deputy Director of the Institute of Electronics, Informatics, and Automation Research: To further develop AI in industry, it is necessary to focus on training human resources, policies supporting applied research, and issuing AI standards in manufacturing. Establishing standards will help businesses easily adopt new technologies and accelerate the digital transformation process.
