Creating a

Vaccinate your livestock to protect them.

Over the years, Thanh Hoa province has faced outbreaks of diseases in livestock and poultry such as avian influenza, African swine fever, and lumpy skin disease. In most cases, upon detecting an outbreak, the relevant authorities quickly directed containment and eradication efforts, resulting in many years without serious outbreaks. However, Thanh Hoa has a large livestock population, while many localities still rely on small-scale farming practices, leaving a constant risk of disease outbreaks.

Because the agricultural sector has recommended that localities implement disease prevention and control measures year-round, people have become more conscious of environmental protection, regularly spraying disinfectants; boldly investing in changing livestock farming methods and applying science and technology... Along with that, departments, agencies, and units have also proactively monitored diseases, quarantined, managed the transportation and slaughter of animals; and strengthened the organization of sample collection for monitoring to promptly detect and warn of disease risks in the province... Therefore, various diseases are well controlled.

Alongside disease prevention, control, and treatment measures, vaccination is considered a "fortress" to protect livestock from dangerous infectious diseases. In the first months of 2025, localities in the province completed the first phase of the 2025 vaccination plan and continued to implement the "Year of intensive vaccination against rabies for dogs and cats and gradually controlling rabies in Thanh Hoa province in 2025". In addition, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine allocated 16,300 liters of chemicals and directed, guided, organized, and implemented sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization work.

According to Nguyen Dinh Phuong, Director of the Trieu Son District Agricultural Service Center, "Vaccination is one of the most effective and proactive disease prevention measures for livestock. When livestock and poultry are properly and fully vaccinated, their bodies will develop active immunity to prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases. Therefore, in localities with many livestock farms, we strictly implement the work of reviewing the total herd, especially for dogs and cats, which must be updated daily, with detailed records and statistics for each household, and confirmed by the village head or neighborhood leader, to ensure 100% vaccination coverage. In communes and towns, the center assigns staff to regularly inspect and supervise the vaccination process, promptly identify and correct errors in vaccination; and implements a phased vaccination method to avoid missing any. Due to regular dissemination of information about the effectiveness of vaccines, most local people are aware and proactive in vaccination." "Currently administering vaccinations."

With close guidance from departments, agencies, and localities, livestock farmers have also proactively implemented disease prevention and control measures. According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, a pig farmer in Thach Dong commune (Thach Thanh district), "besides the support from the local authorities, I have proactively invested in building a sturdy farm with automatic feeding and drinking troughs; especially building a biogas digester to treat waste; planting more fruit trees to create shade and improve the landscape, and also to reduce the odor from livestock farming. In addition, I limit access to the pig pens, have a disinfection pit in front of each row of pens, and regularly disinfect and sterilize livestock equipment and the farming area."

Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions, livestock and poultry diseases were well controlled in the first months of 2025. In the last six months of 2025, the livestock and veterinary sector will continue to implement disease prevention and control tasks. The focus will be on solutions such as preparing the necessary conditions to control and suppress outbreaks as soon as they appear, especially dangerous diseases like African swine fever, lumpy skin disease in cattle and buffaloes, and rabies. In addition, the second phase of rabies vaccination for dogs, cats, and livestock and poultry in 2025 will be implemented effectively, ensuring adherence to the schedule and regulations.
