In the 90+10 minute of injury time, when the score was tied 2-2, 16-year-old striker Rio Ngumoha, who came on as a substitute in the second half, had a perfect finish that scored against the home team Newcastle and brought all 3 points to Liverpool in round 2 of the Premier League.

With the decisive goal on his Premier League debut, Ngumoha is now the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool's history, at 16 years and 361 days, beating the previous record of Ben Woodburn (who scored his first goal in October 2016 at the age of 17 years, one month and 14 days).
Rio Ngumoha is also the second 16-year-old in Premier League history to score a winning goal. The winger follows in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney, who scored the winner for Everton against Arsenal in October 2002.
Ngumoha joined Liverpool from Chelsea in September 2024. The striker immediately impressed the Dutchman and was quickly called up to train with the first team in November.

Ngumoha then joined the Reds for their Champions League match against Girona but was ineligible to play as he did not meet the List B criteria for Europe's top club competition.
The England striker then became Liverpool's youngest ever player when he made his debut in January in an FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley.
In his debut for Liverpool in the Premier League against Newcastle, Ngumoha quickly asserted his worth with the decisive goal in injury time.
"I'm very happy for him. It's just the beginning, he has to keep working hard and stay humble," captain Virgil van Dijk said of Ngumoha after the win.
