This year's competition received 120 entries from 120 authors and groups of authors (an increase of 20 entries compared to 2022). Based on the Regulations of the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Award 2023, the judging panel evaluated 116 entries from 116 authors and groups of authors. The Thanh Hoa Journalists Association invited reputable journalists with in-depth expertise and experience in judging journalism awards to participate in the preliminary judging panel and the evaluation council.

As a result, 46 entries were selected for the competition, including 4 A prizes, 10 B prizes, 15 C prizes, and 17 Consolation prizes. In the print media category, 43 entries were submitted, with 17 winning entries: 1 A prize, 3 B prizes, 4 C prizes, and 9 Consolation prizes. Compared to the previous prize structure, the print media category saw an increase of 1 B prize, 1 C prize, and 4 Consolation prizes. In the online media category, 36 entries were submitted, with 14 winning entries: 1 A prize, 3 B prizes, 3 C prizes, and 7 Consolation prizes. Compared to the previous prize structure, the online media category saw an increase of 1 B prize and 2 Consolation prizes. In the television media category, 17 entries were submitted, with 7 winning entries: 1 A prize, 2 B prizes, 3 C prizes, and 1 Consolation prize. In the Radio Broadcasting category, 15 entries were submitted, with 6 winning prizes, including: 1 A prize, 2 B prizes, and 3 C prizes; In the Photojournalism category, 5 entries were submitted, with 2 winning prizes, including: 2 C prizes.

Print journalism accounted for the largest number of entries, nearly 40% of the total, while online journalism accounted for over 31%. The judging panel carefully considered factors such as subject matter, presentation style, and social impact, increasing the number of awards for both print and online journalism without affecting the total number of awards proposed, which did not exceed 40% of the total entries.

The greatest success of this year's awards lies in the outstanding works selected, which demonstrate the authors' efforts to discover new issues that are of interest to readers, radio and television listeners, and the public, while leveraging the strengths of each journalistic format. The works addressed major topics such as: social welfare issues; personnel organization; environmental protection; and the fight against corruption and waste.

Many works demonstrate the author's meticulous intellectual investment and thoughtful consideration; they offer insightful discoveries and sharp suggestions about effective and creative models and methods, as well as exemplary individuals and good deeds that deserve praise and replication in the movement to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh's teachings...

This year's competition was a huge success, with the highest number of entries ever. It attracted not only journalists and reporters currently working for media organizations, but also freelance contributors, some of whom won top prizes. The entries were published not only in local newspapers and on national television and radio stations, but also in international media.

The award-winning works demonstrate that a passion for the profession has enabled journalists to create journalistic pieces that reflect real life, addressing pressing social issues such as social welfare, poverty reduction, economic activities, investment and development; the fight against corruption and negative practices; economic development linked to environmental protection; outstanding social insurance debts in private enterprises; emigration to Cambodia and its consequences; and child marriage. Furthermore, the authors' meticulous research and exploration in selecting themes and topics, and finding compelling details to include in their works, have made a positive impression on readers, listeners, and television viewers.

Among the award-winning authors this time are journalists who have consistently won top prizes in the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Award for many years, such as: journalist Le Thi Dung (pen name Le Dung), journalist Tran Thi Hang (pen name Tran Hang), journalist Minh Thuy (pen name An Thu), journalist Nguyen Thanh Phuong (pen name Thanh Phuong), journalist Tran Sy Duc (pen name Sy Duc)...

Many works have a high potential for shaping public opinion and creating a widespread impact on readers, such as: "Poverty Reduction or the Story of the 'Ant Climbing the Banyan Tree'" by authors Le Dung and Tran Hang from Thanh Hoa Newspaper, which won the A Prize at the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Awards in 2023; "The Fraudulent Contract Turning Students into Overworked Workers" by author Hoang Viet Minh (pen name Viet Minh) from Cong Thuong Newspaper, which also won the A Prize at the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Awards in 2023; "Overcoming the 'Gateway to Heaven'" by author Tran Sy Duc from Voice of Vietnam (VOV1), which won the A Prize at the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Awards in 2023; "The Aspiration for a Secure Home" by authors Minh Thuy, Thanh Son, Minh Tam, and Nhat Anh from Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station, which won the A Prize at the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Awards in 2023; and "The Road Home" by authors Dinh Hop, Thach Hai, and Hoang Tho from PX03 Department, Provincial Police, which won the B Prize at the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Awards. Mai Ninh, 2023...

Despite its successes, the 2023 Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Award still revealed some shortcomings and limitations, such as: Entries were not carefully selected at the grassroots level; some authors submitted entries that did not comply with the award regulations; and some authors were too lenient in their selection, exploitation, and handling of topics, exhibiting monotonous expression and even unclear genre classifications.

With this season's success, it is hoped that the Tran Mai Ninh Journalism Award will continue to inspire journalists, reporters, and editors to unleash their fighting spirit and creativity to produce high-quality journalistic works. At the same time, it encourages a spirit of competition among writers and media organizations. Through this, it aims to discover and honor the talents of "fighters" on the ideological and cultural front, who deserve not only provincial journalism awards but also national journalism awards.
