"Going against the current" is full of ambition.
For the past few days, Phan Thanh Son's (born in 1993), residing in Quang Trach commune, has been constantly ringing with calls and messages congratulating him. Recently, his project, "SEN BIOTECH - Applying technology in processing lotus essential oil and distilled water," successfully surpassed many other ideas and projects in the Central region, reaching the final round of the 2026 Rural Youth Startup Project Competition. This is not only a source of joy for Son himself, but also a proud milestone for the youth of Quang Tri on their journey of innovation, creativity, and the development of the potential and value of local agricultural products.
Speaking about the good news, Mr. Son said that when he submitted his project to the competition, he didn't dare to have high expectations. He knew that the competition, organized by the Central Youth Union, attracted many excellent projects and ideas. Therefore, when he received the results, he couldn't believe his ears. This good news is the culmination of countless hours of hard work and effort over a long period. "It was the desire to enrich myself and my homeland that motivated me to return to the arduous work of farming," Mr. Son confided.

For a young man who had become accustomed to studying, returning to farming was not easy. Mr. Son had to put in a lot of hard work, borrow money to buy machinery, and find a market for his products… In 2023, the Thanh Son Organic Agricultural Cooperative was established, much to Mr. Son's joy. He shared: “During those most uncertain early days of starting my business, if it weren't for the active support of the Youth Union at all levels, my ‘lotus dream’ might have ended.”
Not only Mr. Son, but the wave of rural youth deciding to "go against the current" and return to their hometowns to settle down is quite strong. To this day, Ms. Tran Thi Lan, Director of Tran Lan Clean Agricultural Products Production and Trading Company Limited and Deputy Director of Trieu Son Lotus Agricultural Products Cooperative, is still grateful for the attention and support of the Youth Union at all levels. As a daughter of a rural family, Ms. Lan worked hard to pave her own way in life. However, after 10 years of teaching, fate brought her back to her hometown's agricultural products. "At first, everything was new to me. The Youth Union officials came to learn about my situation, encouraged me, and helped me. Many of my company's products have reached a wider market thanks to the Youth Union's channels," Ms. Lan shared.
To make the homecoming even more joyful.
In rural Quang Tri today, stories of young people who went away to study or work but then chose to return and establish successful careers in their hometown are no longer uncommon. A common thread in these models is the unwavering support of the Youth Union behind their perseverance and efforts.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Union in the province, said: “From the practical experience of the movement, we understand the difficulties and challenges faced by rural youth when starting businesses. Without attention and support, newly kindled dreams can easily be extinguished. Therefore, the Youth Union at all levels always strives to empower rural youth with concrete actions.”
Beyond mere words of encouragement and support, the Youth Union branches at all levels in the province have, in recent times, realized their commitment to empowering rural youth with practical solutions in terms of capital, knowledge, and technology. The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has implemented numerous policies and initiatives to support rural youth in starting and developing businesses. Coordination between the Youth Union and various departments, banks, and international organizations, including the Startup Seed Fund, has become increasingly close. Through the National Employment Fund channeled by the Central Youth Union, preferential capital has promptly supported youth economic models.
In addition, the Youth Union at all levels has organized many large-scale creative entrepreneurship events along with training courses and workshops to equip young people with a foundation for innovative thinking. Digital transformation activities have been given attention and implemented. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Youth Union at all levels, a network of young entrepreneurs has been formed and closely connected. Hundreds of youth startup products have been listed on Quangtrimart.vn. Livestream sessions promoting OCOP products are taking place more and more frequently.
From that "launching pad," many rural youth like Phan Thanh Son and Tran Thi Lan have seized the opportunity, not only enriching themselves but also contributing to the restoration of traditional crafts, promoting local products, creating jobs, and inspiring others. Son's entry into the finals of the Rural Youth Startup Project competition, Lan's leading role, and many other vivid examples from rural areas are the most tangible fruits, affirming the role of the Youth Union. Beyond simply providing support, the Youth Union at all levels has been and continues to work with rural youth to ignite the flame of aspiration in their homeland.
