(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Periodic tests for high school students will have to be changed according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training .
The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has recently sent a document to provincial Departments of Education and Training providing guidance on implementing reforms in testing and evaluation for secondary and high school students.
As requested by the Ministry, for subjects assessed using a combination of qualitative and numerical evaluation, the Department of Education and Training instructs high schools to develop matrices, specification sheets, test questions, and guidelines for grading periodic tests, ensuring professional and technical requirements are met, as per the appendix attached to this document.
According to this appendix, the periodic tests for graded subjects at the high school level will have a new matrix consisting of two parts: objective multiple-choice questions (worth 7/10 points) and essay questions (worth 3/10 points).
The objective test section shares many similarities with the format of the high school graduation exam, including multiple-choice questions, true/false questions, and short-answer questions.
For subjects that do not have "Short Answer" questions, all points for this section will be allocated to "True/False" questions.
Overall, the exam will consist of 40% questions at the knowledge level, 30% at the comprehension level, and 30% at the application level.

Implementation will begin in the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Currently, high schools use different matrices for periodic tests. For example, in mathematics, some schools only use multiple-choice questions, while others include an essay section worth 1-2 points.
