Last-minute squad changes

During the FIFA Days in October 2024 for women's national teams, the Vietnamese women's national team accepted an invitation to participate in a three-team friendly tournament held in Chongqing (China). The tournament featured the women's national teams of China, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan.

Before their first match, the Vietnamese women's national team made personnel changes when striker Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan suffered an injury and required treatment, forcing the coaching staff to call up striker Vu Thi Hoa as a replacement.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Vietnam women's national team coach Mai Duc Chung said: "This tournament is taking place during the Vietnam women's national team's youth rejuvenation process. Therefore, this will be a good opportunity for the players to learn from their opponents and gain experience for the future. We previously lost to Uzbekistan 0-1 in the Paris Olympic qualifiers. I haven't forgotten that match. Uzbekistan women's football has improved; they are now a competitor for a World Cup spot. Our opponents are tall, strong, and have good stamina. The upcoming matches will help the Vietnam women's national team gain experience and learn from their mistakes."

At this tournament, the Uzbekistan women's national team also saw a notable change as the head coach position was given to Vladimir Panov, who led the Uzbekistan U17 women's team in 2023. Panov took over the position from Japanese coach Midori Honda.

According to the schedule, the Vietnamese women's national team will face the Chinese women's national team on October 29th. Before that, Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will play against the Uzbekistan women's national team on October 23rd. The match between the Chinese women's national team and the Uzbekistan women's national team will be held on October 26th.
