On the evening of December 30th, at Sa Dec City Square, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province organized the opening ceremony of the 1st Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival with the theme "Love of the Land - Love of Flowers," which will take place from December 30th to January 5th, 2024.
Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Member of the Political Bureau and Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Vice President of Vietnam; along with leaders of central agencies and many provinces and cities attended the opening ceremony.
Mr. Tran Thanh Man delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the 1st Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival.
The flower village is famous throughout the country.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Member of the Central Committee of the Party and Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, stated: "From a humble flower village, it has now taken on the form and appearance of a flower city; from a limited number of varieties and supplying products within a province or region, it now has a cultivated area of over 3,000 hectares with more than 2,000 varieties of flowers and ornamental plants, supplying over 12 million products annually. Sa Dec flowers and ornamental plants are present in all provinces and cities of Vietnam and have begun their journey to reach the international market."
"This festival is expected not only to bring people and tourists exciting experiences and unique artistic programs, but also to be an opportunity to connect and promote the economic value of the flower and ornamental plant industry, bringing Sa Dec's flower and ornamental plant products to a new level and reach a wider audience…," Mr. Phong said.

Changing the economic mindset of ornamental plants
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated Dong Thap province's initiative in organizing the Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival. This is a meaningful cultural, economic, and tourism event; it is also an opportunity for Dong Thap to promote its tourism brand and attract investment, confidently providing and meeting domestic demand for its flowers, ornamental plants, agricultural products, and tourism, and expanding into the region and the world.
The Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival is an opportunity to promote the image of the Sa Dec region.
Mr. Tran Thanh Man stated that, in the face of challenges from climate change, market fluctuations, and changing consumer trends, the cultivation and supply of ornamental plants to the market need flexible adaptations to not only create beautiful, unique, and high-quality products but also contribute to building a stable and developing ecosystem.
"We must change the mindset from 'ornamental flower production' to 'ornamental flower economics,' adding more value to improve people's lives... Therefore, it is essential to have the efforts and endeavors of Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations in the province; the dynamism, creativity, overcoming difficulties and challenges, daring to think and act, and the keen thinking of farmers," said the Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.
