This is not the first painting by teacher Nguyen Tri Hanh (Art Teacher, Hermann Gmeiner High School, Vinh City). Before that, he was famous for nearly 500 beautiful paintings drawn on the board such as: Con rong chau tien; Works about Mother; Mourning the Party, Mourning Spring;...
After being completed and posted on social networks, the work recreating the historical moment of the Nghe An teacher received many likes and comments from students, audiences, and other teachers.

Talking to reporters from the People's Representative Newspaper, Mr. Hanh confided that he spent a lot of time researching historical documents and films to clearly visualize the important moment of the nation. According to Mr. Hanh, only by understanding and loving his subject can an author create a true and meaningful work.
The entire picture is painted in pastels with bright, epic tones. Under the talented hands of Mr. Hanh, the glorious moments of history are almost completely recreated. The image of tanks heroically entering the Independence Palace, the red flag with a yellow star fluttering, or the Liberation Army soldiers nimbly crossing the collapsed gate... seem to "come alive", evoking many emotions in the viewer.
According to Mr. Hanh, the most difficult part of the process was drawing the tank. This detail required meticulousness and dexterity, even with the simplest strokes. Besides, the chalk material was not easy to draw.
"To draw the picture, I used a box of colored chalk - the cheapest type of chalk. Due to the limited color range, I had to mix it myself to create vivid color tones. This type of chalk also cannot spread color like normal drawing materials. To create a soft color transition, I mainly had to rely on hand-painting techniques," Mr. Hanh revealed.

As a former student of the Fine Arts Department of Nghe An Province College of Culture and Arts, Mr. Tri Hanh has experienced many materials such as oil paint, watercolor or gouache. However, drawing with chalk on a green board is still a new experience, and quite challenging for the young teacher.
"I started drawing with chalk in 2021. To draw with chalk, you need to have a basic understanding of drawing. Next, you need to know the technique of using chalk. Regarding the color of chalk, in addition to the original color from chalk, it also comes from light, so you need to understand the principle of light and dark to create attractive color effects that attract viewers.
At the same time, before drawing, the author needs to arrange the image layout correctly, in accordance with the content expressed. In particular, pay attention to the board and chalk materials," said Mr. Hanh.
Previously, Mr. Hanh's works mainly revolved around the cultural rhythms and lives of Vietnamese people. From bustling rural markets, golden rice fields to familiar small street corners... each painting conveys the rustic breath of daily life.

On this occasion, with the painting recreating the historical moment of April 30, Mr. Hanh chose to step out of familiar themes to try his hand at a new topic about history. The difficulty in recreating history through art is that it not only requires the artist to have high precision; but also to convey emotional depth; avoiding constraints and stereotypes.
"I made this painting recreating this historical moment not only to celebrate the Liberation Day of the South, but alsoto educate students about the nation's fighting tradition. Today's young generation needs to remember the value of independence and freedom and strive to continue to protect and develop those revolutionary achievements," emphasized teacher Tri Hanh.
