Thanks to preferential credit loans for the production and business of seedlings and ornamental plants, many households in Tan Thieng commune, Cho Lach district, have improved their lives.
Overcoming difficulties
According to provincial history, from the evening of April 30, 1975, to the morning of May 1, 1975, the entire province was completely liberated. Independent and free lives returned to the people. The country entered an era of independence, freedom, and unity. Along with the rest of the country, the people of the province began to heal the wounds of war and rebuild their homeland. However, the province was heavily devastated by the war and faced extremely serious difficulties.
The province embarked on rebuilding its life from a very low starting point. Many sectors in the province essentially had to be rebuilt from scratch. Agriculture faced numerous difficulties. Decades of war had severely damaged houses and farmlands. The infrastructure and technology left behind by the enemy were extremely poor and outdated. Along with all efforts to heal the wounds of war, the provincial leadership advocated for the return of nearly 200,000 people who had previously been forced to live in military camps, towns, and cities to their old farms and farms to make a living. At the same time, they addressed employment and stabilized the lives of 40,000 former South Vietnamese soldiers and officials who had disintegrated on the spot after the swift offensive of April 30, 1975, by our army and people.
The biggest and most urgent problem facing the revolutionary government at that time was providing food for one million people. Meanwhile, the province suffered consecutive crop failures in 1977 and 1978. With determination and willpower to overcome all difficulties, the entire Party and people of the province strived to overcome the challenges, gradually bringing the provincial economy towards stability.
Over 50 years of arduous struggle, the province's economy has made remarkable progress. Based on the province's three identified strengths – agriculture, horticulture, and fisheries – the people have brought the spirit of the "Dong Khoi" uprising of the past into the development of production, building the technical infrastructure for industrialization and modernization of the economy, developing culture, and gradually improving the lives of the people. In particular, poverty reduction has always been a priority for the Party and government at all levels, helping people achieve stable lives and contributing to building a civilized, prosperous, and beautiful homeland.
Many support policies
Overcoming the losses and suffering of war, the province has continuously strived to care for the poor and disadvantaged in every stage. In particular, in the most recent period from 2021 to 2025, the province has implemented many poverty reduction and social welfare policies for various groups. This affirms the province's commitment to "working together for the poor - leaving no one behind."
According to the Provincial People's Committee, the total budget for the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2024 in the province is 3,002 billion VND. From this funding, the province has implemented many projects and policies to help reduce poverty sustainably. Specifically, 321.7 billion VND was allocated to support investment in socio-economic infrastructure development in particularly difficult coastal and lowland communes, enabling the construction and maintenance of 116 new bridges and roads. Livelihood diversification and poverty reduction model development involved 2,126 poor and near-poor households, with a total budget of 51.7 billion VND. Other projects include: supporting production development and improving nutrition; developing vocational education and sustainable employment...
From a province facing food shortages before liberation, the lives of its people have steadily improved. Production is now strong enough for export and competitiveness. In 2024, the province's total export turnover reached US$1,750 million, an increase of 20.27% compared to 2023. Of this, foreign-invested enterprises accounted for US$1,240 million, an increase of 17.39%; and domestic enterprises accounted for US$510 million, an increase of 27.91%. The province's main export items all exceeded their targets. Specifically, seafood exports reached 107% of the annual plan (planned 36,000 tons, actual 38,600 tons). Export products such as dried shredded coconut, coconut milk, canned coconut water, and activated charcoal all saw increases.
According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Be Muoi: "In the coming time, the province will continue to extensively and practically implement the emulation movement 'The whole country joins hands for the poor - no one should be left behind' and the emulation movement 'Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province by 2025', aiming to encourage, motivate and create a widespread impact in the community and among the people on poverty reduction work."
| The province currently has 8,298 poor households, accounting for 2.05%; 9,052 near-poor households, accounting for 2.23%; 7 out of 21 particularly disadvantaged communes in the coastal and lowland areas have been recognized as having escaped from their disadvantaged status, and 3 communes have been recognized as achieving new rural standards. The province has basically met the targets set by the Provincial People's Committee for the 2021-2025 period. |
