As part of the Sadbhav (Goodwill) campaign, the Government of India transported emergency relief supplies to the Government of Vietnam to support communities in several northern provinces of Vietnam affected by Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3).
The relief supplies included essential items such as water purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchenware, water tanks, buckets with taps, and solar-powered lights, based on the needs of the affected communities and recommendations from authorities. The shipment was valued at $1 million.
A few days ago, on behalf of the Government and people of India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent condolences and expressed solidarity to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Indian Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, also sent condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son regarding the losses and damage caused by the storm.
The Indian government affirms that humanitarian assistance to Vietnam is a testament to the long-standing and strong relationship between the two countries, marked by a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill) is part of India's larger effort to contribute to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the ASEAN region, in line with India's long-standing Act East policy.
Handing over relief supplies to representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya mentioned the deep solidarity of Indian businesses and community members with those affected by Typhoon Yagi and the Vietnamese authorities.
