Connecting compassionate hearts

As the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse approaches, for Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa and her children in Phong Doanh village, Vinh Tuong commune, this will likely be the most complete and heartwarming New Year celebration, as they are celebrating the Spring Festival for the first time in a "House of Love" built with the support of the Women's Union at all levels. Having lost her husband early, Ms. Hoa single-handedly raised two young children while battling thyroid cancer, making life extremely difficult. Her family's greatest asset was their dilapidated, unsafe house. Understanding their plight, the Women's Union of the commune promptly proposed to the higher-level Women's Union to provide Ms. Hoa's family with 60 million VND to build a "House of Love"; they also mobilized female members to contribute an additional 10 million VND, along with labor and construction materials.

Ms. Hoa said emotionally, “My family’s joy has been multiplied many times over this Tet holiday as we get to live in a spacious and sturdy house. The care and support from women’s associations at all levels have not only provided material assistance but also offered great encouragement, giving me the strength to overcome difficulties.”

Amidst the bustling atmosphere of the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), together with officials from the Women's Union of Vinh Phuc Ward, we visited Hoang Anh Tu, born in 2015, in Dam Vac residential area. His family is facing difficult circumstances; his father passed away early, and his mother is a freelance worker with an unstable income, raising three young children who are all of school age on her own. Understanding and empathizing with his situation, since June 2024, the Women's Union of Dong Da Ward (formerly), now the Women's Union of Vinh Phuc Ward, has been sponsoring Tu with 500,000 VND per month. Although the support is not large, it is regular, warm, and timely, providing him with the motivation to attend school and confidently pursue his studies.

To effectively implement the "Godmother" Program, the Women's Union of Vinh Phuc Ward has intensified its efforts to disseminate information about the program's content and significance, and to mobilize resources for its effective implementation. Having been involved with the program since its inception, Ms. Pham Thu Thuy, Director of Tay Thi Danh Vien Company and a member of the Women's Union of Vinh Phuc Ward, has sponsored 20 children. Through connections and support from Women's Unions at all levels, she provides each child with 500,000 VND monthly to share their difficulties, help them focus on their studies and daily lives, and nurture their dreams. In addition to monthly financial support, she also regularly accompanies and supports the children with school supplies and essential necessities; and gives gifts on occasions such as the start of the school year, Children's Day (June 1st), Vietnamese Family Day (June 28th), and Lunar New Year.

Ms. Thuy shared: “I don't have the opportunity to be near the children, to take care of them every day like a real mother, but I always follow their growth day by day through the information and photos sent by the Association's staff. Every smile, every thank you, every progress of the children is the motivation for me to continue this journey.”

Spreading humanitarian values in community life.

Sow love, reap happiness.

In addition to monthly financial support, the Women's Union of the Provincial Police regularly visits and encourages the sponsored children.

Social welfare, humanitarian, and charitable activities have been implemented by the Women's Union at all levels in a diverse and effective manner, linked to the Union's campaigns and emulation movements, and the political tasks of the locality. From 2020 to the present, the provincial Women's Union has connected social resources and mobilized 112 billion VND to donate gifts to poor households and policy beneficiary families, visit and give gifts to poor women and children; and support the repair and construction of 436 "Houses of Love," "Houses of Solidarity," and "Borderland Houses" for poor women and women in difficult circumstances. Each house donated not only helps members stabilize their housing and feel secure in their work and production but also serves as a great source of encouragement, giving them more confidence to strive in life.

Implementing the "Godmother - Connecting Love" program, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has mobilized and connected with over 1,200 orphaned children to provide them with support, creating a solid foundation to help them overcome difficulties, thrive in life and education, and empower them on their path to nurturing dreams and aspirations. In addition, the Women's Union at all levels has organized visits and distributed over 130,000 gifts to poor households and families of policy beneficiaries during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). In poverty reduction efforts, the Women's Union of the Ancestral Land has effectively implemented models such as "Women Helping Each Other Develop Economically ," "Saving Money by Raising Piggy Banks," and "Helping Poor Women with Specific Needs," helping members gradually increase their income, improve their lives, and escape poverty.

The new spring is arriving throughout our homeland, bringing with it faith and hope for a peaceful and prosperous new year. Through concrete, practical actions imbued with compassion, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has been persistently sowing seeds of love in the community, promptly sharing and supporting those in need, contributing to building warm and hopeful springs.
