iPhone 15 Pro Max battery life increased significantly after iOS 18 update

The test results not only highlight the outstanding battery life of the newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max, but also emphasize the unexpected improvement of the iPhone 15 Pro Max series when installing the iOS 18 operating system, with the battery lasting more than an hour longer than before.

Geekerwan conducted a series of tests to measure battery life using common apps and activities such as text messaging, making voice and video calls via WeChat, browsing the web using Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), and playing the graphics-heavy game Genshin Impact. These activities were repeated continuously until the phone's battery was depleted.

Improved battery life thanks to iOS 18 and A17 Pro processor

The results show that after installing iOS 18, the battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro Max increased from 7 hours 56 minutes to 9 hours 2 minutes, equivalent to an additional 1 hour and 6 minutes of use. For the iPhone 15 Pro, the battery life also increased from 6 hours 22 minutes to 6 hours 55 minutes, which means an additional 30 minutes.

Geekerwan explains that this improvement is thanks to iOS 18's task scheduler, which, along with the powerful A17 Pro processor, makes the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max more efficient. iOS 18 helps the device maintain lower power consumption when performing short tasks by extending the time before increasing the frequency of the chipset cores. This helps reduce power loss, thereby increasing battery life.

Only iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max benefit optimally

Note that the A17 Pro processor is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models still use the older A16 Bionic chip. Therefore, only the two highest-end iPhone 15 models can take full advantage of iOS 18's optimizations for improved battery life.

Warning when using iOS 18.1 Beta version

Geekerwan also notes that if you’re running the iOS 18.1 beta on your iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, you may not see a noticeable improvement in battery life. This is because the first developer beta of iOS 18.1 hasn’t been fully optimized yet, especially when it comes to using Apple’s Intelligence features, which could result in lower battery life. However, this should be fixed when iOS 18.1 is released to the public next month.

With significant improvements in performance and battery life after the iOS 18 update, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users will have a better experience, especially when using power-intensive tasks.
