According to a report from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, due to the influence of an upper-level wind convergence zone, from the night of April 20th to the morning of April 21st, 2025, rain occurred in the province, accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas. Rainfall monitoring at several stations showed that 28 stations recorded light rainfall, and 6 stations recorded moderate rainfall (from 16 - 37.6 mm). According to a quick report from Muong Khuong district, 9 houses belonging to 9 households had their roofs blown off, with damage levels below 30%, including 8 households in Nam Lu commune and 1 household in Lung Khau Nhin commune. In addition, one household in Lung Khau Nhin commune suffered damage to its outbuildings (the kitchen roof was completely blown off). The estimated total damage is 45 million VND.

The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Muong Khuong District has directed specialized agencies and the People's Committees of communes and towns to inspect and compile statistics on the damage, and to direct local forces to assist families whose houses were damaged in cleaning, sanitizing, and reinforcing or re-roofing their homes, with completion expected by May 21, 2025.

Earlier, in the early morning of April 13th, a widespread thunderstorm also occurred in the province, causing damage to houses and agricultural crops in the districts of Muong Khuong, Bao Yen, and Bac Ha. The total estimated damage to houses, irrigation works, and agricultural crops is over 265 million VND.

During the transitional seasons, extreme and unusual weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning strikes are highly likely to occur, directly affecting people, property, and crops. Currently, for the purpose of directing and responding to these events, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has forwarded warning bulletins from the Central Government and the Provincial Meteorological and Hydrological Station to the duty officers in districts, towns, and cities to warn and urge communes, wards, and townships to proactively take preventive measures.

The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment requests the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in districts, towns, and cities to direct communes, wards, and townships to strengthen guidance to the people on reinforcing and securing houses; and to prune trees that pose a risk to houses and roads in order to minimize damage caused by natural disasters.

Furthermore, it is recommended to organize a 24/7 duty roster; regularly monitor and assess weather conditions to warn people and help them take preventive measures. Warn and instruct people to absolutely not stay overnight in fields or engage in outdoor activities during thunderstorms, hailstorms, or lightning strikes. Update and report damage information to the Department of Agriculture and Environment promptly and in accordance with regulations.
