Amidst the flower fields, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong from Ta Ha village is busy tending to his chrysanthemum plants, preparing for their peak bloom. He shared: "Previously, these fields were mainly used for growing rice and traditional vegetables, resulting in low income. Therefore, my family boldly switched to new crops to find a better way to develop our economy . Currently, my family is growing 1.5 acres of chrysanthemums with varieties such as Chinese yellow chrysanthemums, purple chrysanthemums, white chrysanthemums, etc., with cultivation concentrated from July of the previous year to April of the following year. The chrysanthemums grown for sale during Tet this year are thriving due to favorable weather. The wholesale price at the field ranges from 3,500 to 4,000 VND per flower, depending on the quality and time of sale, which is 15-20% higher than the same period last year."
Mr. Tran Van Thinh's family cultivates 1.2 acres of various types of chrysanthemums. He happily shared: "Chrysanthemums are bought directly from the fields by traders from within and outside the province, giving people confidence to expand their scale. Each season, I change the chrysanthemum varieties to suit market tastes, such as white chrysanthemums, yellow chrysanthemums, jewel-eyed chrysanthemums, diamond chrysanthemums... Growing chrysanthemums isn't difficult, but to have large, beautiful flowers that meet market demand, besides the quality of the seedlings, growers must be patient and meticulous, adhering to technical requirements so that the plants bloom at the right time and yield high value. To have flowers available for the market in time for the Lunar New Year, every year, from around the 8th lunar month onwards, flower growers begin selecting seedlings for planting. People apply techniques and adjust the care process to suit the weather conditions." Among the methods used to ensure uniform and timely flower growth is the continuous lighting system, providing 5-6 hours of light each night for 25-30 days to supplement the plants with heat and light. With current selling prices, after deducting expenses, my family earns a profit of over 20 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters) per season.
As a regular customer, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, a flower trader, expressed: "Chrysanthemums from Ta Ha village have the advantage of being large, having beautiful colors, and lasting a long time, so they are popular with customers. Not only during the Lunar New Year but also on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, I order flowers here to sell at the markets."
With its easy cultivation, care, resistance to pests and diseases, suitability to local soil conditions, and stable market demand, chrysanthemums are the main flower crop for flower growers in Ta Ha village. From an area of over 10 hectares in 2020, the villagers have now expanded their cultivation to over 33 hectares. Most of the area is cultivated using staggered planting, ensuring continuous harvests, and is particularly profitable during the Lunar New Year. Many households in Ta Ha village rent land in neighboring villages to grow chrysanthemums. To improve the economic efficiency of chrysanthemum cultivation, the villagers actively research and apply new techniques in planting and caring for the flowers. Mr. Nguyen Van Song, Party Secretary and Head of Ta Ha village, said: "Chrysanthemums have truly become a crop that brings economic benefits, averaging a profit of 540 to 600 million VND per hectare per crop, contributing to the development of the local economy." To support local people in increasing production value, the locality has recently coordinated with specialized units to organize training on flower cultivation and care techniques; introduced and linked the supply of quality materials, fertilizers, and pesticides to the people; and promoted the selection of high-quality chrysanthemum varieties that yield high economic returns, are suitable for the market, and are easy to sell. In 2025, implementing the Project "Development of concentrated fruit tree, flower, and ornamental plant production areas in Hung Yen province giai đoạn 2020 - 2025", the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has implemented a model of chrysanthemum cultivation in the summer-autumn and autumn-winter seasons in Ta Ha village. People have been transferred techniques for staggered chrysanthemum planting, contributing to increased income and creating a foundation for expanding the area of cut chrysanthemum production in the locality. In the future, the locality will guide flower growers to establish cooperatives to increase production value.
Another spring has arrived, and with skillful hands, meticulous care, and extensive experience, the flower growers of Ta Ha village will have another successful flower season, contributing to a prosperous and joyful Tet holiday.
