Earning 8 billion VND during Tet after a "bold move" of growing high-end flowers in harsh conditions.

The phalaenopsis orchid garden in Thanh Lan village, Thach Khe commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province) is creating a sensation as Tet (Lunar New Year) 2024 approaches. This is the first model of growing phalaenopsis orchids in an insulated factory in Ha Tinh.

Mr. Pham Van Huy (42 years old, residing in Thach Khe commune, Thach Ha district) invested in this model in March 2022 when he recognized the great market demand for high-end Phalaenopsis orchids. Initially, his investment was met with skepticism because Ha Tinh is known as a "scorching hot and rainy region," with hot summers and freezing winters.

But with determination, Huy invested over 10 billion VND in renovating and leveling the land on an area of ​​over 2,500 square meters. Afterward, he built and installed a multi-layered greenhouse including: insulation, heat retention, sun protection, and nylon.

Mr. Huy applies modern technology such as automatic temperature and light sensor systems, air circulation fan systems, industrial air conditioners, and water walls. The temperature inside the greenhouse is always adjusted to suit daytime, nighttime, and seasonal conditions.

During the Lunar New Year of 2024, Huy's orchid garden bloomed beautifully.

Since the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, visitors from both within and outside the province have flocked to Huy's orchid garden to experience and purchase the plants.

Many customers shared that when they come here, they get to choose the color and style of flowers they like best. Then, they can choose the type of pot they feel is suitable, and the flowers are arranged and decorated on the spot by skilled artisans.

To meet the high demand from customers, the orchard owner hired more than 10 local laborers to work from morning until night.

According to Mr. Pham Van Huy, the 2024 Lunar New Year was the first year he sold 60,000 phalaenopsis orchid plants in more than 20 different colors. By January 26th (the 16th day of the 12th lunar month), his garden had sold 90% of its stock, with only 6,000 flowers remaining for retail sale.

"Not only within the province, but also customers from Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Quang Binh ... have come to buy. After deducting expenses, we will earn more than 8 billion VND. This is a success beyond my family's expectations," Huy shared.

According to representatives from the Ha Tinh Department of Science and Technology, Pham Van Huy's model is the first large-scale commercial orchid cultivation model in the province. Huy's success has opened up new prospects for building and replicating high-tech agricultural production models that adapt to climate change and improve the economic efficiency of the people.
