According to the crop calendar, farmers in Hai Phong should have finished harvesting the winter-spring rice crop at this time and are focusing on planting early and mid-season rice crops. However, in some communes in the western part of the city (formerly Hai Duong province), farmers have not finished harvesting the winter-spring rice crop even though it has ripened.
As of the morning of July 3, in some communes such as Tu Ky, Nam Sach... there were still ripe rice fields that had not been harvested. In these fields, many areas were flattened, the rice flowers lying close to the wet, flooded field surface.
In recent days, Hai Phong area has often had heavy rain. Winter-spring rice harvest is slow, especially in flooded areas, which can easily cause rice to sprout, increasing the risk of reducing yield and quality of rice.

On the morning of July 2, it rained heavily, about 3 hectares of winter-spring rice in Nam Sach commune had not been harvested, many of which were flooded. Do Han pumping station had to operate the drainage pump for many hours to limit the risk of causing damage to the rice. This resulted in increased costs for fuel, electricity, and labor to operate the pumping station.
The delayed harvest of winter-spring rice will prolong the planting season of summer-autumn rice. According to experts, rice that is not planted according to the crop schedule is susceptible to pests and diseases, affecting productivity and slowing down winter-spring crop production.
