Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí18/07/2024

The top scorer in the D01 group of this year's high school graduation exam is Nguyen Phuong Linh, a student from class 12A12, Vinh Phuc Specialized High School, Vinh Phuc province.

Phuong Linh achieved a perfect score of 10 in English, 9 in mathematics, and 9.75 in literature. In other subjects, the female student also achieved impressive scores such as: history 9, geography 9.75, and civics 9.5.

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper, Phuong Linh said that she was "shocked" when she found out her exam results. At that moment, she called her mother and cried loudly because she couldn't control her happiness.

Linh said that she had also achieved top scores in the two previous provincial surveys, but she didn't think she would achieve top scores in the 2024 high school graduation exam because the exam was nationwide in scope.

Sharing her study secrets, Linh said that she doesn't try to do everything at once, but instead sets short-term goals within 1-2 months to achieve her objectives.

For example, you need to decide which stages you should focus on preparing for the IELTS exam, which stages you should dedicate all your efforts to completing your applications for certain universities, and which stage you should focus on for your graduation exams…

"Perhaps I learned from my mother how to create a clear plan for all my activities here. She's very good at balancing work and family, so I know when to study and when to play," Linh said.

According to this female student, in addition to her studies at school, she mainly studies on her own and often finds extra learning materials online, learns foreign languages through movies, books and newspapers, or listens to foreigners speaking through videos .

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper, Ms. Cao Thi Phuong Lan, Phuong Linh's mother, expressed her surprise that her daughter was the top student in the D01 group.

She said she never put pressure on her child regarding studies. Her child didn't study intensely either. Even during the high school entrance exam, she encouraged her child, saying it wasn't necessary to get a high score, and that her parents would support her no matter which school she attended. And then her child got into Vinh Phuc Specialized High School.

"I used to tell my child that there are many paths to success, including through life experiences, not just books. So, in addition to learning academics, she learned to play the piano, sing, and so on..."

I advised my child to study all subjects equally because a perfect score in one subject can't compensate for a score of 6 in another, so my child studied all subjects very consistently. Importantly, my child didn't attend any extra tutoring sessions but focused on listening to lectures from teachers at school.

"At school, the literature teacher is always there to support and monitor my progress, making sure I don't 'fall behind.' Whenever she sees me neglecting something, she pulls me back up," Ms. Lan said.

It is known that in 11th grade, Phuong Linh achieved an 8.0 IELTS score. She is also the class president of 12A12, Head of Human Resources for the Vinh Phuc Specialized English Club, and Head of Communications for E-Boost SS…

Phuong Linh said that she has no intention of dating or studying abroad anytime soon. If possible, she will pursue postgraduate studies abroad, but for now, she will choose VinUni because she believes it is the right environment for her.

Commenting on her "all-around talented" student, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, a literature teacher and class homeroom teacher, said that Phuong Linh had won second and third prizes in the provincial-level excellent student competition. The student also achieved an 8.0 IELTS score and previously won a Silver Medal in the national online English Olympic competition.

As class president, Phuong Linh was always enthusiastic in all activities, especially piano and photography.
