At the beginning of the new year, the Deputy Minister shared good news regarding the field of sending workers abroad. He stated that, to date, approximately 44,000 people have registered to take the Korean language test under the Employment Permit System for foreign workers in Korea (EPS program), nearly five times higher than last year's figure of 9,000 candidates.
Vietnamese workers are highly valued in South Korea, so the quota allocated to Vietnam this year has increased significantly. Specifically, not including supplementary allocations, Vietnam has already been allocated 15,000 workers at the beginning of the year, the highest number among the 16 countries participating in the EPS program.
"This is a non-profit program that provides practical benefits, offering workers the opportunity to work in South Korea at a low cost and with a stable income."
"Recently, tens of thousands of people from provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh ... came to register for the first round of the 2024 labor selection exam for South Korea, showing the great appeal of this program," Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan assessed.
Recalling his business trip to South Korea late last year, the Deputy Minister said that he had the opportunity to visit and witness Vietnamese workers at the Hyundai factory. He was very pleased that the workers at this world- leading shipbuilding factory have high and stable incomes.
"The basic salary of a skilled worker at the factory is about 2.7-2.8 million won, and the total income including overtime is about 3.3-3.5 million won per person per month (approximately 65 million VND). The income of a skilled worker in South Korea is therefore equivalent to that of 10 workers in Vietnam," the Deputy Minister said.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan stated that in the coming period, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will promote and expand new markets for Vietnamese workers, prioritizing markets with good working conditions, safety, and high incomes such as Germany and Canada.
