Currently, the Provincial Library manages and serves over 104,000 titles with more than 354,000 copies covering various fields such as literature, history, science , life skills, children's books, etc., meeting the learning, research, and entertainment needs of readers. Entering the summer break, the number of readers visiting the library has increased significantly, especially students. In June, the library welcomed 14,420 readers, an increase of nearly 66% compared to 8,690 readers in May – a time when schools were still conducting classes. This increase in the number of readers shows that the library continues to be an attractive destination, contributing to the formation of reading habits, enhancing knowledge, and creating a healthy cultural environment for young people in the province.
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Thao, the officer in charge of the Children's Department at the Provincial Library, "To meet the needs of readers during the summer, the Provincial Library has proactively added many new books suitable for teenagers and young adults, such as storybooks, color comic books, picture books, and books on life skills, etc. At the same time, we have renovated the reading space and rearranged the functional areas to be more user-friendly and convenient."
With its friendly reading environment, rich book collection, and many engaging activities, the Provincial Library has become a familiar destination for many students during the summer. Not only are children enthusiastic about visiting the library to read, study, and play, but many parents also express their reassurance in choosing it as a beneficial environment for their children.
Nguyen Minh Anh, a student from Minh Xuan ward, shared: “Whenever I have free time, I go to the library to read with my friends. There are many types of books here suitable for our age, from children's stories and history books to science books. I like the books about science and famous people the most because they help me understand many new things beyond what I learn in class.”
As a parent, Ms. Tran Thi Huong from Nong Tien ward said: “My husband and I both work, so we feel very secure sending our children to the library. It's a safe and healthy environment that helps children both have fun and gain more useful knowledge. Compared to spending too much time on phones or video games, I find that going to the library helps children develop a reading habit, proactively seek knowledge, and develop better thinking skills. I strongly support the library's activities and hope that there will be more programs for children in the future.”
Besides serving readers on-site, the Provincial Library in Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang also promotes the distribution of books to local communities through a system of mobile multimedia library vehicles and rotating book shelves located at the Provincial Youth and Children's Cultural and Sports Center, commune and ward centers, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas. This activity contributes to narrowing the information access gap and creating conditions for people and students to access a rich source of knowledge.
Furthermore, the library actively applies digital technology in its services to readers. Through QR code scanning and digital library platforms, readers can easily look up information, search, and access over 700 e-books in various fields anytime, anywhere. The library also regularly updates and introduces many new books on its website, fan page, and social media platforms, contributing to bringing books closer to the people, especially the younger generation in the digital age.
In a context where electronic devices and social media increasingly occupy the time of young people, the growing number of students choosing libraries as summer destinations is a welcome sign. Books not only open up horizons of knowledge but also contribute to nurturing the soul, developing self-learning skills, and fostering beautiful dreams. With continuous innovation in its services, the Provincial Library is gradually affirming its role as a friendly cultural and learning space, contributing to the spread of reading culture and the building of a learning society in the province.
