Promoting electricity conservation

Over 318 million kWh of electricity were saved in the first six months of 2025 as a result of the comprehensive solutions implemented by the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC). This impressive figure demonstrates a significant shift in the awareness and behavior of people and businesses in the Central and Central Highlands regions regarding electricity conservation.

Synchronize solutions

In implementing Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving in the period 2023 - 2025, EVNCPC issued a specific action program and established a Steering Committee to ensure electricity supply right from the beginning of the year.

Member power companies have implemented a comprehensive range of technical solutions, communication strategies, and community outreach initiatives to promote electricity conservation in their localities.

Da Nang city is experiencing rapid urbanization and high electricity consumption, therefore the electricity saving program is being implemented very aggressively. The City People's Committee has directed the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with Da Nang Power Company Limited (PC Da Nang) to implement many solutions such as reducing public lighting time, turning off unnecessary outdoor advertisements, replacing traditional light bulbs with energy-saving devices, and applying smart control technology...

In the first six months of the year, the city's total commercial electricity output reached 1.75 billion kWh, a 15.5% increase compared to the same period last year. Peak power reached 668 MW, and the highest daily output reached 13.7 million kWh, both exceeding the levels of the same period last year.

Notably, 100% of customers in the target group (including administration, public lighting, manufacturing, and services) have signed electricity saving agreements with a total committed saving of 46.8 million kWh.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tru, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, suggested that the electricity sector needs to continue investing in modern power grids, strengthen public awareness campaigns, coordinate the handling of violations, and propose improvements to the legal framework for the development of clean energy sources.

At the household level, many people have proactively changed their electricity usage habits, switching to LED light bulbs, inverter air conditioners, turning off appliances when not in use, and installing applications to monitor electricity consumption remotely.

Some households have also installed rooftop solar panels to secure their own energy supply and reduce long-term costs.

“My family has switched to washing and ironing clothes during off-peak hours, taking advantage of the sun to dry clothes instead of using a dryer. Everyone also makes it a habit to check and turn off appliances when leaving the room,” shared Ms. Le Thi Tam (residing in Hoa Khanh ward).

Enhance communication

In addition to focusing on technical solutions, the electricity sector identifies communication as a crucial "spearhead" for spreading a culture of electricity conservation within the community.

In the first six months of 2025, EVNCPC collaborated with central and local media agencies to publish more than 400 news articles on electricity saving; and simultaneously updated dozens of articles reflecting effective models on the electricity sector's website.

On digital platforms, EVNCPC's fanpages and community groups spread the message through lively video clips and infographics. The EVNCPC fanpage alone posted 25 videos, and the "Building Central Vietnam Power" group added 36 posts and 14 clips, creating a strong ripple effect, especially among young people and power industry workers.

The Earth Hour 2025 campaign continues to receive positive responses in most provinces and cities in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. Specifically, during the one-hour power outage (8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 22nd), the total electricity saved reached 51,850 kWh.

The electricity sector has also seen many effective initiatives such as shifting appliance usage hours to off-peak hours, adjusting air conditioning temperatures appropriately, and utilizing natural light.

In particular, the installation of rooftop solar power is being embraced by many households and businesses due to its dual benefits: cost savings and environmental friendliness.

Mr. Le Hoang Anh Dung, Deputy General Director of EVNCPC, affirmed: “Saving electricity is not only a task for the electricity industry but also a responsibility of the community. The awareness of saving electricity is gradually becoming a natural behavior in daily life and production-business activities, contributing to ensuring energy security and sustainable development. EVNCPC is committed to innovating communication methods, promoting digital transformation, building a smart and efficient electricity ecosystem, and spreading it to every household and business, especially in remote areas.”
