I came to Da Nang for medical treatment.
Recently, many medical facilities in Da Nang city have recorded an increasing number of international patients seeking examination and treatment.
In early 2026, Ms. B. Jade Alix (29 years old, British nationality) came to Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Center feeling anxious. According to the patient, she has a rare blood type (B-), and the waiting time for treatment in the UK healthcare system has lasted more than four years, while her condition has worsened.
After researching and assessing the expertise of the medical team in Vietnam, she decided to go to Da Nang for treatment. Through clinical examination and consultation with the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists, the doctors determined she had an ovarian cyst and recommended surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery went smoothly, and the patient was discharged after three days in stable condition.
Dr. Phan Gia Anh Bao, the physician directly in charge of the case, stated that the patient being a foreigner did not alter the medical indications. All stages of admission and treatment followed standardized procedures, ensuring patient safety.
Similarly, Mr. Kunnuvila Mohammad Rayaan Yohannankutty (39 years old, Indian nationality), who had undergone seven bone surgeries in various countries, chose Da Nang for his eighth surgery.
In the field of traditional medicine, the Da Nang City Traditional Medicine Hospital has also recorded many cases of international patients undergoing long-term treatment.

A typical example is Mr. Usmanov Eduard (56 years old, Russian nationality), who suffered from the after-effects of a stroke for two years. His son took him for treatment in several countries, but the results were not as expected. After about five months of treatment at the Da Nang City Traditional Medicine Hospital, his health improved significantly, and he was able to live independently and became attached to the hospital as his second home.
According to Dr. Nguyen Phuong Thao, Head of the Medical Tourism Unit (Da Nang City Traditional Medicine Hospital), the number of international patients coming to the hospital for examination and treatment has increased sharply compared to the previous period, especially since the medical tourism model was implemented at both of the hospital's facilities.
In 2025 alone, the hospital received 1,691 international visitors and 1,222 domestic visitors seeking healthcare combined with traditional medicine treatment.
Aiming to become the leading medical tourism center in Central Vietnam.
The recent increase in international patients visiting Da Nang reflects the growing trend of medical tourism worldwide and demonstrates the increasing confidence of foreign patients in the city's healthcare system.
According to Dr. Nguyen Phuong Thao, international patients are often interested in non-drug or minimally invasive treatment methods, focusing on recovery and long-term health care. Among these, the Fire Dragon Acupuncture method, pioneered by the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital, has received positive feedback from many foreign patients.

To meet the growing demand, the hospital has invested in modern facilities and equipment. Treatment spaces have been renovated to be spacious, comfortable, and ensure patient privacy; equipment for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation has been enhanced, maximizing effectiveness through the combination of traditional and modern medicine.
In addition, the hospital focuses on improving the quality of its human resources, building a team of doctors, nurses, and technicians with strong expertise and extensive experience; while also strengthening training in communication skills, foreign languages, and service style to better meet the requirements of international patients.
Based on identifying the international patient market as one of its key development directions, the unit continues to standardize examination and treatment procedures, promote digital transformation, and publicize the image of traditional medicine as safe, effective, and friendly internationally.
In the field of modern medicine, representatives from Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Hospital stated that in the coming time, the unit will continue to orient itself towards developing medical tourism, focusing on improving professional quality and standardizing the process of receiving international patients, gradually perfecting the service system in the direction of integration.

Meanwhile, Da Nang Hospital has established a separate outpatient and inpatient treatment area for international patients following a closed-loop process. Since 2018, the hospital has implemented international health insurance cooperation and has now signed agreements with 15 global insurance companies, meeting the payment needs of patients from many regions around the world.
According to Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, the number of foreign patients coming to the hospital for examination and treatment has increased rapidly recently, demonstrating the hospital's capacity to receive and handle health issues arising from tourists and foreigners living and working in Da Nang.
However, the development of medical tourism in Da Nang still faces many challenges. Medical examination and treatment service packages are not yet clearly defined; connectivity between medical facilities remains limited; the city lacks a specific medical visa policy, while competitive pressure from countries with developed medical tourism industries in the region and from major medical centers within Vietnam is increasing.
In response to this situation, the Da Nang City People's Committee issued a plan for the development of medical tourism for the period 2025-2030, aiming to improve the quality of medical services in conjunction with economic development and promote the city's image. Accordingly, by the end of 2026, Da Nang strives to develop at least 5 medical service packages combined with tourism; from 2027, to complete the online appointment booking system; and by 2030, to have at least 2 medical facilities meeting international standards in professional competence and service quality.
The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is developing a plan for the development of medical tourism and high-quality medical examination and treatment services for the period 2025-2030, aiming to make Vietnam a leading healthcare center in the region.
The project aims to improve the quality of medical services to international standards, develop a modern healthcare system capable of serving both domestic and international tourists, and create unique medical tourism products linked to the strengths of each locality.
According to the roadmap, by 2030, at least five key localities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh, and Khanh Hoa, will implement an integrated medical tourism model combining hospitals, hotels, resorts, and travel agencies.
