Promoting the use of "low-emission" labels.
The goal by 2035 is to contribute to a reduction of at least 15% in total greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector compared to 2020. This includes achieving a rate of over 80% collection and reuse of agricultural waste in the circular economy; and developing sustainable production standards on over 30% of cultivated land. Simultaneously, five cropping models capable of generating carbon credits to meet the requirements of international organizations will be implemented; priority will be given to building and developing "low-emission" labels for coffee and pepper. Furthermore, training and workshops on techniques, policies, general awareness, and emission measurement tools will be organized for at least 150 local technical staff, extension workers, farmers, and businesses in the area.
From there, looking towards 2050, Lam Dong's agricultural sector will establish a digitized database on emissions in crop production, synchronously connected with the national monitoring system; build and popularize "low-emission" labels for agricultural products, achieving 100% of key crop areas applying sustainable farming techniques according to organic certification standards, VietGAP, and GlobalGAP, linked with the replication of value chain linkage models.
Specifically, for industrial crops and fruit trees such as coffee, pepper, durian, etc., apply water-saving irrigation methods, smart nutrient management, and intercropping with forestry trees and other plants to form a multi-layered landscape farming model, increasing biomass carbon storage per unit area and limiting erosion and leaching, and improving soil. Rice cultivation utilizes alternating wet and dry irrigation techniques and straw management without burning. Corn and cassava are intercropped with erosion control strips, covered with green manure crops combined with organic fertilizers and lime to improve soil fertility. Vegetable and flower crops optimize the use of fertilizers and pesticides; increasing the use of organic fertilizers and biological pesticides.
In addition, the plan includes implementing scientific and technological tasks on breeding drought-tolerant and pest-resistant plant varieties, and developing specific emission-reducing farming techniques; selecting locations to build five emission reduction models for organic vegetables, coffee, corn, cassava, durian, and pepper...
Integrating emission reduction targets
According to the Provincial People's Committee, based on the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is responsible for assigning tasks to agencies and units to collect, build data, and monitor and evaluate emission reduction indicators, updating them into the central intelligent monitoring and control system. This will complete the provincial-wide database of growing areas, integrating information on cultivation history and emission reduction assessment indicators; and support organizations and individuals in applying software for electronic production log recording linked to growing area management, measuring fertilization, irrigation, and byproduct treatment activities.
With policy solutions, Lam Dong province continues to review and adjust relevant projects and plans to support and promote the application of technology and circular processes according to certified standards for reduced-emission agricultural production. Besides encouraging businesses to participate in building regional-scale reduced-emission production models, the entire province of Lam Dong is strengthening greenhouse gas emission monitoring and implementing MRV procedures to enhance the value of products in the international market, especially in markets with strict technical barriers such as the EU.
For businesses and cooperatives, Lam Dong supports access to export markets through trade promotion activities, market opening negotiations, and promotion of low-emission agricultural products at domestic and international trade fairs.
