Promoting the "slow travel" trend

Journeys in Hue (JiH) offers leisurely and relaxing tours amidst the tranquil atmosphere of the ancient capital, providing visitors with a variety of options. Based on the lifestyles of the people and the scenery, JiH's "slow travel" style in Hue has gained popularity among tourists and is on the rise.

Themed tours, such as
Themed tours , such as "Travel to learn," are popular with many tourists.

Go slowly, feel deeply.

For the past three years, the JiH group, with six members including Doan Cong Quoc Tuan (group leader, born in 1992), Tran Tri Quan (born in 1995), Pham Thi Quynh Thi, Tran Quang Thanh, Le Duc Hoang (all born in 2000) and Nguyen Quang Huy (born in 2001), has diligently gathered stories and historical figures to create truly unique tours.

As someone who researches and verifies information about the stories and figures related to Hue's history and cultural heritage for JiH, Quang Huy has contributed significantly to the group's success. Quynh Thi, who enjoys connecting with people knowledgeable about culture and history and immersing herself in expeditions to discover ancient tombs, found her calling in JiH. Quang Thanh, a young man from Gia Lai, is different; his appreciation for the refined manners and subtlety of the people of Hue has driven him to dedicate himself to this land. Similarly, the two friends Tri Quan and Duc Hoang, after learning about the stories hidden behind the moss-covered walls of the ancient capital, have become even closer and want to share these stories with tourists in more detail.

According to Mr. Doan Cong Quoc Tuan, "Based on the fact that tourists only stay in Hue for a short time, the group wanted to create more opportunities for visitors. JiH organizes many experiential activities during each trip with guests, increasing interaction through multiple senses for all members of the group."

Leveraging Hue's strengths, from its natural beauty and cuisine to the solemnity of its royal palaces, the JiH group aims to recreate scenes from the past in Hue. Traditional garments like the Nhat Binh and Ngu Than ao dai, images of dragons and phoenixes on the roofs of old houses, a kitchen where authentic Hue cuisine was prepared… each detail tells a story, and the JiH members convey it to visitors. “A ‘slow’ and ‘deep’ travel experience focuses on emotions, creating the most complete experiences for guests. That is the profound value that JiH strives for,” Quoc Tuan expressed.

Leveraging the strengths of the ancient capital region.

Some members of the JiH group, such as Duc Hoang, Quynh Thi, and Quoc Tuan, were born and raised here, so JiH serves as a bridge for young people from Hue to spread and introduce the culture of their homeland to visitors from all over. Topics such as "Are people from Hue introverted?", "Are people from Hue patriarchal?", "How are French-style cakes made?"... are gradually clarified by the JiH group with subtlety and creativity through the perspective of young people.

In the three years since its founding, JiH has taken over 100 trips with tourists, exploring the poetic land of Vietnam. Every tomb, ancient grave, and village communal house bears the footprints of the six young people. Notably, from 2021 to the present, the JiH group has spent considerable time accompanying Ms. Tri Hue (101 years old), a seamstress who used to make the left-hand-rest pillows in the royal palace. In Ms. Tri Hue's house, each pillow is gradually completed, carrying stories of royal court culture and history to tourists from near and far.

Currently, JiH is organizing regular "Travel to Learn" trips to explore Hue in depth through different periods. Thanh Thao (from Da Nang University), a first-time participant in "Travel to Learn," said: "Instead of just stopping to take a few photos for check-in, discovering the meaning behind each historical site and architectural structure gave me much more useful and unforgettable knowledge."

According to Mr. Quan Ba Chinh, a lecturer at Hue University of Tourism, "slow tourism" is a fairly popular tourism trend in many countries around the world. In Vietnam, we have many potentials and advantages created by historical and cultural factors that can develop this type of tourism. Developing "slow tourism" will bring tourists unforgettable experiences, save money and time, help develop their knowledge base, and live more responsibly towards heritage values and the community. "As a lecturer teaching about tourism culture, I am very happy to see that the young students of the university love and are beginning to participate in the research and development of tourism in the historical and cultural field in Hue," Mr. Chinh shared.
