On the afternoon of May 20th, the Dong Nai City Tourism Association organized a seminar on the topic of "Dong Nai Tourism Taking Off with Long Thanh Airport".
During the program, representatives from management agencies, experts, associations, and businesses with extensive experience and understanding of the strengths and bottlenecks in tourism exchanged and shared practical perspectives, strategic directions, and solutions for developing Dong Nai's tourism in a modern, sustainable, and integrated manner, in the context of Dong Nai becoming a centrally-governed city and the Long Thanh International Airport expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Quoc Thang, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, believes that with its new status as a centrally-governed city and the Long Thanh International Airport located within its territory, the development of tourism in Dong Nai requires elevating it to a higher level, following a model and scale commensurate with the city's development. This should be based on better utilization of all human resources, natural resources, local culture, and various interconnected relationships. From there, it will not only create socio -economic benefits contributing to the comprehensive development of the locality but also of the entire country in the coming historical period.

With these new requirements, relevant agencies need a well-structured, comprehensive plan and truly professional, focused, and continuous implementation based on the strength of the entire population, businesses, and local management apparatus, in conjunction with relevant city-level agencies and organizations, especially in linking with localities in the Southern region, the whole country, and countries around the world. All of this is oriented towards sustainable development to create new momentum for Dong Nai city's tourism to "take off" alongside Long Thanh airport.
According to Dr. Nguyen Duc Tri, Head of the Tourism Department at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, instead of traditional positioning, developing tourism in Dong Nai in conjunction with Long Thanh Airport means viewing the airport as a means and tourism as the destination.
This expert proposes positioning "Long Thanh Airport City" as a "new wonder" on Vietnam's tourism map, not as a buffer zone of Ho Chi Minh City, nor as a subsidiary of an airport code bearing the name of another city, but as an unprecedented landmark in the national brand.

According to Pham Huong Son, Chairman of the Dong Nai Tourism Association, the Dong Nai Tourism Seminar "Taking Off" with Long Thanh Airport is being held at a particularly important time, as Dong Nai has just held the ceremony to announce the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City, and Long Thanh International Airport is in the final stages of completion and is expected to be put into operation at the end of 2026.
Based on the results of the seminar, the Dong Nai City Tourism Association hopes to contribute to shaping important directions for the development of tourism in Dong Nai in the new phase. This includes clarifying Dong Nai's role in the regional tourism ecosystem; developing tourism products that suit the trends and needs of new tourist groups, especially short-stay, flexible, and experience-rich products.
Along with that, we will gradually improve the infrastructure, human resources, and service quality, while building a unique and highly recognizable image of Dong Nai tourism that creates a distinct mark on the regional tourism map.

Long Thanh International Airport is being built on an area of over 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh ward, Dong Nai city. The project has an estimated total investment of over 16 billion USD, divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 is worth over 5.4 billion USD, with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.
Upon completion of all phases, Long Thanh International Airport will reach a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year and become the largest airport in Vietnam, serving as a transit hub in Southeast Asia and competing with major airports worldwide.
According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation, component 3 of the Long Thanh International Airport project comprises 15 main construction packages, of which 3 have been completed, and the remaining 12 are being implemented simultaneously. Currently, the investor, contractors, and related units are resolving obstacles and accelerating progress to bring the airport into commercial operation by the end of 2026, as targeted.
It is projected that by the end of 2027, 90% of flights will be transferred from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Long Thanh International Airport.
