Arriving at the summit of Hoanh Son Pass at dawn, a scene unfolded before our eyes that resembled a traditional ink painting. The sun slowly rose above the horizon, casting its first rays of light that bathed the waves, mountains, and clouds in a golden hue. That moment was the purity of nature, a place where earth and sky met.
Hoành Sơn Quan, also known as the "Gateway to Heaven" or "Ngang Pass," was built during the reign of Emperor Minh Mạng to guard the border gateway, control the population, and prevent criminals from passing through.
The structure is located on top of Ngang Pass, on the border between Ha Tinh and Quang Tri (formerly Quang Binh ), nearly 250m above sea level.
The moss-covered stone gate, steeped in history, evokes memories of a bygone era of border defense. Besides its cultural and historical value, this place also offers stunning views: on one side, the blue sea stretches endlessly; on the other, majestic mountains rise high; and below, a peaceful countryside lies the tranquil countryside.
It is this blend that makes Hoanh Son Pass a unique stopover, evoking both a sacred feeling about a historical landmark and offering visitors a fascinating natural experience. The Ngang Pass road becomes even more enchanting when bathed in golden sunlight. Experience watching the sunrise at Hoanh Son Pass once, to fully enjoy the moment of harmony between earth and sky, a magnificent natural landscape.
