Land of pioneers and innovation
The highlight of Hai Phong's economic development in the past term is the development of economic zones, industrial parks and modern deep-water port systems. According to the report of the Hai Phong Party Committee, in the past 5 years, 10 industrial parks and 13 industrial clusters have been established. The city has also focused on investing in building transport infrastructure connecting logistics centers with international seaport areas. The city's seaport system has developed strongly, including 4 more modern deep-water ports in operation. These ports can receive large-capacity ships up to 200,000 DWT, welcoming the largest ships in the world and sailing directly from the farthest places such as the West Coast and East Coast of the United States, contributing significantly to improving the city's cargo clearance capacity, while affirming its position as a logistics center of the region, creating a strong attraction for investors. Seaports will be an area that contributes greatly to the city's economic and social development in the coming years.
Along with the development in quantity, economic zones, industrial parks and seaport systems, Hai Phong is also a pioneer in digital transformation, applying advanced science and technology, gradually forming and developing an innovation ecosystem.
Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park is a bright spot in the city's industrial development. This is one of the first industrial parks in Vietnam to convert to an ecological industrial park model. At the same time, it is also one of 37 industrial parks in 7 countries selected by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to participate in the Global Eco-Industrial Park Program. Nam Cau Kien is also the first industrial park in the city to announce a digital solution set for carbon emission management.
Mr. Pham Hong Diep, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shinec Joint Stock Company, Investor of Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park, said that investing in green and digital solutions helps Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park optimize operations and save costs by optimizing energy and resources. In the next phase of the project, the digitalization of green spaces will include trees, shrubs, lawns, landscape trees, parks, flower gardens, water surfaces and renewable energy sources, creating a solid basis for calculating carbon absorption and aiming to participate in the carbon credit market in the future.
According to Mr. Le Trung Kien, Party Secretary, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, in the period of 2025-2030, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Party Committee directs the top priority in the development of industrial parks and economic zones to promote green transformation, digital transformation, and strongly develop the fields of industry, services and innovation. The Southern coastal economic zone will be a new growth pole of the city. The city is carefully preparing the conditions to form the first free trade zone in the country. All of these create a new development momentum, contributing to Hai Phong's deeper integration into the global value chain and firmly entering a breakthrough development phase, moving into a new era.
Lasting cultural roots
The 2020-2025 term is also a milestone in the cultural and tourism development of Hai Phong city, in which two world heritages were included in the list by UNESCO. Along with that, the opening of new flight routes connecting Hai Phong with major cities in the Asian region has contributed to enhancing the city's position on the international tourism map.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, in the 2025-2030 term, the City Party Committee continues to clearly define the viewpoint that investment in culture must be on par with investment in the economy. On that basis, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will focus on implementing a number of key tasks such as promoting the development of cultural industries, building Hai Phong into a "City of Music" with professional, diverse cultural and artistic activities with its own identity, spreading to the region and internationally as well as artistic activities for everyone so that people can both participate in creation and be beneficiaries.
In the tourism sector, the industry continues to effectively exploit marine resources and cultural heritage, making tourism a key economic sector associated with green growth and sustainable development. In the coming time, the city will continue to expand direct flight routes connecting Hai Phong with major economic and tourism centers in the country and Asia, creating favorable conditions for international tourists and investors to come to the city.
"The above orientation will be the "runway" for culture and tourism to become important development resources of the city. The spiritual values imbued with the identity of the Port City, where heroic spirit, patriotism, creativity and aspiration converge, will always be a solid pillar, accompanying the development of the city and the country in the new development stage", Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai shared.
