Writing on her Facebook page on July 31st, midfielder Thùy Trang announced that she had received an invitation from Lank FC - the team that Huỳnh Như played for last season.
However, what made her hesitate to decide was her age (35 years old), fearing she wouldn't be able to keep up with the high-level Portuguese Women's Championship.
"Regardless of Trang's final decision, this is the greatest honor of her life. Trang will always cherish and be grateful for the respect and trust they have placed in her," she wrote.
Thùy Trang is a key midfielder for the Ho Chi Minh City women's club and the Vietnamese national team. However, in the 2023 Women's World Cup, coach Mai Đức Chung did not use Thùy Trang for a single minute in the two defeats against the defending champions USA (0-3) and Portugal (0-2).

This is understandable, as at 35, Thuy Trang is unlikely to compete at a high intensity against much stronger opponents. However, it is highly probable that coach Mai Duc Chung will use her in the final match of the 2023 Women's World Cup against the reigning runner-up, the Netherlands, at 2 PM today (August 1st).
However, Lank FC's scouts took notice of Thùy Trang not because of her performance at the World Cup, but because of her outstanding and consistent performances over the past period.
After the 2022-2023 season, several key midfielders at Lank FC left. Therefore, the team targeted Thùy Trang after witnessing another Vietnamese player, striker Huỳnh Như, make a strong impression previously.
Huynh Nhu is also negotiating a new contract with Lank FC after her old one expired. If both Thuy Trang and Huynh Nhu play for Lank FC, this would be a highly anticipated reunion for both Vietnamese girls and Vietnamese women's football.
