Based on the initial idea and coordinated program plan, the volunteer team unanimously agreed to implement free English lessons this summer for students aged 10-12, prioritizing "Children fostered by the Youth Union," "Children fostered by the Commune Police," and children in the "Godmother" program of women's associations at all levels within the Provincial Police, children living at the SOS Children's Village in Dong Hoi, and disadvantaged students in Quang Ninh District, Bo Trach District, and Dong Hoi City.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Thi Huyen Trang, Deputy Head of the Women's Affairs Department, Political Affairs Division, Quang Binh Provincial Police, stated: In practical response to the Month of Action for Children, the National Month of Action on the Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence, and Vietnamese Family Day 2025, the Quang Binh Provincial Police has developed a plan to organize the program "English for Children - A Loving Summer," integrating the dissemination of information on preventing and combating violence and abuse against children. The program is supported and coordinated by organizations and individuals with expertise in foreign languages, such as the "English for Children" Project and national-level English trainers. This creates a beneficial and healthy summer playground for disadvantaged students; contributing to equipping them with practical English knowledge and skills, helping them develop habits and confidence in communication.
Free English classes in Dong Hoi City. |
Three classes are being held at three locations: Dong My Primary School (Dong Hoi City), Quan Hau Town Primary School (Quang Ninh District), and Ly Trach Secondary School (Bo Trach District). Currently, 32 students are participating in the free English classes in Dong Hoi, 30 in Quang Ninh District, and 10 in Bo Trach District (more students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are passionate about this foreign language are being invited to register).
Classes will take place once a week for 6 weeks, featuring diverse and engaging activities to inspire children. These include: practicing storytelling, singing, drawing, and presentation skills in English; learning vocabulary using flashcards; and participating in team-building activities and games such as tug-of-war, sack races, capture the flag, crossword puzzles, and "drawing dreams, coloring happiness"...
This year, over 15 volunteers and teachers were mobilized, including English teachers, teacher training students, high school students, and teaching assistants and support staff. The professional supervisor is Ms. Ha Hong Ngoc, M.Sc., Project Manager of the "English for Children" project and a national-level English trainer.
Ha Hong Ngoc shared: “From my passion for learning English to becoming an English teacher, I have become very confident in my work. This foreign language has also supported me in social activities, helped me assert myself, and brought practical successes and benefits in life. I won first prize in the 3rd English Olympic Competition for Young Cadres in 2021. With the knowledge I have gained, I want to pass on my passion to young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them to confidently communicate, gain knowledge, and have opportunities and direction to contribute to their future self-development and career building.”
The free summer English classes organized by volunteers through a collaboration between organizations and individuals have just completed two sessions. According to the plan, there are four more sessions scheduled over the next four weeks. Therefore, students in Dong Hoi, Quang Ninh, and Bo Trach who are passionate about learning and wish to participate should contact the volunteers to join for free in the coming period. |
As the Secretary of the Dong Hoi City Youth Union, Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang, once shared, over the years, Ha Hong Ngoc has been one of the city's Youth Union members who has made many contributions to the Youth Union movement and volunteer programs for community life. Hong Ngoc left an impression as a "green note" in participating in the "Teaching English to disadvantaged children" program organized by the Dong Hoi City Youth Union in collaboration with local Youth Union branches. With positive energy and solid knowledge, Hong Ngoc successfully completed all the program's content, helping dozens of disadvantaged students to excel in foreign languages...
“I would like to thank the youth union members for creating such a beneficial ‘playground’ for us this summer. With the fun activities and games guided by the youth union members, I was able to learn English faster,” said Le Nguyen Yen Nhi, from the SOS Children’s Village.
