According to initial information, the fishing boat, piloted by three fishermen residing in Thinh Son village (Nam Cam Ranh commune), departed from Nam Cam Ranh commune at 9:30 AM on May 14th to the sea area off Sa Huynh beach to dive for shellfish. By the morning of May 15th, the boat was hit by waves, struck rocks, the rudder broke, it lost control and drifted ashore.
Officers and soldiers of Battalion 458, along with local fishermen, quickly tied ropes and pulled the distressed fishing boat closer to the Sa Huynh sandbank. They also assisted in resolving the problem, preventing the boat from sinking, and patching the holes in the boat.
By 1:30 PM, after the damage to the fishing boat had been repaired, the functional forces of Battalion 458 guided the boat safely south towards Cam Ranh.
