ANTD.VN - The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the total electricity production and import in the remaining months of 2023 is estimated to reach 95.6-97.2 billion kWh, an increase of 9.9%-11.8% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, total electricity production in September (up to September 27, 2023) reached 21.164 billion kWh.

In the first nine months of 2023, the total electricity production and import for the entire system reached approximately 210.3 billion kWh, an increase of 3.35% compared to the same period in 2022, achieving 73.9% of the approved 2023 plan.

Calculations by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) show that the total electricity production and import for the entire system in the remaining months (September-December) is estimated to reach 95.6-97.2 billion kWh, an increase of 9.9%-11.8% compared to the same period in 2022.

For the whole year of 2023, the total electricity production and import for the entire system is estimated to reach 281.9-283.6 billion kWh, an increase of approximately 5.1-5.7% compared to the same period in 2022, achieving 99.1-99.6% of the approved plan for 2023.

"Electricity supply in the remaining months of 2023 will be basically guaranteed, meeting the electricity needs for production, business, and daily life of the people," the Ministry of Industry and Trade affirmed.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently continuing to direct EVN and the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0) to develop the 2024 electricity supply plan to ensure the highest possible electricity supply for production and daily life of the people in 2024.

Meanwhile, the latest report from EVN indicates that in the past nine months, coal-fired power accounted for over 46.3%, while hydropower accounted for 27.7%. Coal-fired power remains the main source of electricity for the power system.

In 2023, electricity shortages in May and June were partly due to EVN and its member units not proactively securing coal for electricity production. However, to prepare for a more stable and continuous electricity supply in 2024, EVN and TKV, the Northeast Coal Corporation, recently signed agreements on coal supply for electricity production.
