Coach Enrique could be on Manchester United's radar. |
Following Ruben Amorim's dismissal, the managerial hot seat at Old Trafford was left vacant. Darren Fletcher was appointed as interim manager, while the Manchester United board was in negotiations with former players such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick for the interim role until the end of the season.
According to The Athletic , Manchester United will wait until the summer to appoint a permanent manager. Oliver Glasner, Kieran McKenna, and Andoni Iraola are among the names frequently mentioned. In addition, Luis Enrique has emerged as a notable option.
The Spanish manager has shared since 2013 that he hopes to one day work in English football. French media reports that the former Barcelona coach has just rejected a contract extension offer from PSG, opening up the prospect of managing Manchester United.
However, if Enrique were to arrive at Old Trafford, he would have to face Manuel Ugarte. This is the player he himself "gave the green light" for PSG to sell to MU in August 2024 for a fee of around £42.7 million.
The Uruguayan midfielder joined PSG from Sporting but only lasted one season before being dropped from Enrique's plans. At Manchester United, Ugarte also failed to live up to expectations. According to Dutch media, Ajax wants to loan Ugarte in January 2026, and the player himself has not objected.
If Manchester United are serious about appointing Enrique, it's highly likely Ugarte will also have no future at Old Trafford.
