According to the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the total livestock and poultry population in the province is over 23.6 million head, including 454,900 buffalo and cattle. There are 617 cooperatives, 227 cooperative groups, and 937 farms engaged in cattle farming.

The bottlenecks hindering the value of the province's beef industry are the scattered nature of the cattle herd, the lack of clearly defined specialized farming areas, and the lack of standardized breeds, resulting in low productivity. The main reasons are the ineffective exploitation of high-quality bull semen, the lack of widespread artificial insemination, the absence of a stable supply chain, and the fact that while the proportion of crossbred cattle is increasing, it has not yet met the requirements for improving quality...

Cattle farmers presented concerns regarding the farming environment, support policies, and other issues.
Cattle farmers presented concerns regarding the farming environment, support policies, and other issues.

At the seminar, in response to concerns raised by livestock farmers and cooperatives, representatives from the Rural Development Sub-Department and the Livestock and Veterinary Sub-Department stated that support for livestock farming is implemented according to Government Decree No. 106/2024/ND-CP, which stipulates policies to support improved livestock farming efficiency. Regulations on environmental hygiene in rural livestock farming are based on Circular No. 04 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, which promulgates regulations on livestock wastewater.

Regarding the requirement to relocate household livestock farms away from residential areas, local government representatives believe this remains difficult to implement as it requires specific planning within the overall master plan of the commune.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Deputy Head of the Provincial Livestock and Veterinary Department, answered some questions from cattle farmers.

Mr. Dinh Van Dang, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, noted that Dak Lak has many advantages in terms of land resources, feed sources, and the largest livestock herd in the Central Highlands region. However, maintaining small-scale farming methods is resulting in low value for this sector. In the future, it is necessary to promote breed improvement using high-quality bull semen, convert inefficient crop land to growing grass and feed for cattle; and simultaneously strengthen connections with businesses and establish cooperatives to form a livestock value chain with the participation of all stakeholders.
