Ms. Nguyen Kim Canh (75 years old, a retired official residing in the Hanoi Mechanical Workers' Housing Complex, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) sadly shared: "At an age when he should have been resting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong dedicated himself to working until his last breath to shoulder the responsibilities of the people and the nation. The passing of the General Secretary is an immense loss for the nation, the Party, his family, his hometown, and his village."
As General Secretary, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong clearly demonstrated his pivotal leadership role, fostering high unity within the political system, guiding the country through difficulties and challenges, and achieving numerous successes in various fields. The country's prestige and standing have steadily increased, earning high praise from the people and international friends. In particular, thanks to the General Secretary's wisdom and decisiveness, the fight against corruption and negative practices has been effective, leaving no areas untouched, thus fostering trust and support from the people for the Party and the government.
As an outstanding leader, in his everyday life he was always simple, humble, and exemplary, respected and loved by the people, and worthy of being a role model for cadres, party members, and all citizens to follow.
"The General Secretary's shining example of morality will always accompany the country and the nation on the road ahead and will always remain in the hearts of every Vietnamese citizen. The General Secretary's great ideas are a precious asset left for future generations to inherit and develop, protect and build a more prosperous and happy country," Ms. Nguyen Kim Canh confidently stated.
Sitting thoughtfully in front of the television screen, Mr. Nguyen Thuan Quang (89 years old, Co Nhue 2 ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) sadly stated that for over 20 years in his role as a leader of the Party and State, including more than 10 years as General Secretary, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has clearly demonstrated wisdom and decisiveness in all aspects of the economy, culture, and society, especially the high level of unity and consensus within the Party.
"Over the past 10 years, the country's anti-corruption efforts have been highly effective. It can be said that trust in the Party has grown stronger and deeper, a great achievement of the General Secretary in his capacity as Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption. I believe that the spirit of the General Secretary will continue to be carried on, so that the country will become stronger and wealthier," Mr. Nguyen Thuan Quang shared.
Exemplary role model
Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Trong Hao, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that the passing of the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam is a great loss to the Party, the State, and the people. Over the years, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made immense contributions to national development, especially in Party building and rectification. During his lifetime, the General Secretary was a humble leader, living a simple and noble life that earned the respect of many. He was a shining example of "diligence, frugality, integrity, and righteousness" that every leader and Party member should learn from and emulate.
Although General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has passed away, his legacy lives on. "With the spirit of unity and solidarity of the political system, government, and people, I believe that in the coming time, our country will continue to develop its strength and achieve the goals set by the 8th Party Congress. We always remember the General Secretary's words: 'A doctor has a great honor and a glorious but extremely heavy responsibility.' Besides medical examination and treatment, we are currently striving to train more and more doctors who are both politically sound and professionally competent to provide even better healthcare for the people," shared Associate Professor Nguyen Trong Hao.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa, Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Junior High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), expressed: "Throughout his many positions and roles, the General Secretary has dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the country, and the nation. In particular, the anti-corruption campaign led by the General Secretary has achieved many successes."
According to Mr. Cao Duc Khoa, the school will incorporate content introducing the life, revolutionary career, and immense contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the people and the country into its curriculum so that future generations of students can continue to learn from and emulate him. In its plan to promote the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's moral example, the school also includes content on the exemplary conduct of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings. This will be a topic regularly discussed within the school's Party branch and Trade Union.
According to Mr. Ton That Minh, a former history teacher at Cu Chinh Lan Junior High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), the people recognize the immense contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the country. In his position as the highest leader of the Party, the General Secretary has implemented major policies for the overall development of the country, and many consistent decisions have promoted the development of Ho Chi Minh City in particular. Mr. Ton That Minh expressed his affection and respect for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong – a simple, approachable man, revered by all citizens. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an exemplary role model, enjoying the absolute trust of all cadres, Party members, and people from all walks of life.
The people of Pom Lot followed the General Secretary's instructions.
Mr. Doan Dinh Sung, a resident of Pom Lot commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province, recalled: On July 16, 2016, he was fortunate to welcome General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune. What resonated with him and everyone else about the General Secretary was his simple and approachable working style, close to the officials and people in the commune.
After listening to the commune leaders report on the local development situation, the General Secretary listened attentively and gave many practical instructions, emphasizing the importance of ensuring political security, focusing on economic development, and eradicating poverty for the people. In particular, during that meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong repeatedly stressed the word "unity" and expressed his hope that the commune would achieve the new rural development goals by 2017.
Bearing in mind the General Secretary's instructions, the local government and the ethnic communities in the commune have strived and worked together to ensure that by 2017, Pom Lot commune had basically achieved the new rural development goals. Since then, the commune has consistently maintained and completed the remaining criteria for new rural development as prescribed. In 2023, Pom Lot commune was honored to be selected as an advanced new rural commune. “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a communist soldier, an exemplary leader, close to the people, and loved them immensely. Despite this great loss, although deeply saddened, I tell myself that I will continue to fulfill the wishes that the General Secretary had instructed me to fulfill during that meeting,” Mr. Doan Dinh Sung expressed.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dau, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Pom Lot commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province, said: "The General Secretary's instructions helped cadres and people in the commune to successfully implement the contents of the Resolution of the 12th National Congress, laying the groundwork for the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress."
Former Party Secretary of Pom Lot commune recounted that his most memorable experience was accompanying General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the memorial for young volunteers in the area. Although it was their first meeting, the General Secretary asked him how many years he had served in the army. He replied that he had served five years, working in Laos. The General Secretary then advised him: "Having served in the military, you must utilize your full potential to serve the people well." These words of advice from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong served as a powerful motivation for Mr. Nguyen Van Dau, along with the people and local Party committee and government, to unite and successfully accomplish the tasks set forth.
"The most impressive thing about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is that he is extremely simple and approachable. At the meeting, the commune presented the General Secretary with a traditional Thai ethnic scarf, and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong liked it very much, immediately putting it around his neck and wearing it throughout the working session," Mr. Dau recalled.
Mr. Le Ngoc Hoan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Pom Lot commune, said: "Upon hearing the news of the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, all Party members and people in the area were deeply saddened. With the affection that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong showed us, Pom Lot commune wholeheartedly trusts in the leadership of the Party and is determined to continue to effectively implement the tasks, targets, directives, and resolutions set forth by the 13th Party Congress. In particular, we will effectively promote internal unity and cohesion within the Party, as well as leadership and guidance in socio-economic development in the area, to build Pom Lot into an increasingly developed community in accordance with the General Secretary's wishes; upholding the spirit of unity, revolutionary vigilance, and countering hostile forces; and resolutely building the Party, the political system, and the government to become increasingly developed."
